Saks Fifth Avenue closes Southampton store this past weekend; Water Mill's Citarella also closed

Cheese! Pasta ! Bread ! Whole Foods or Trader Joe's - BRING IT ON! Let's get all the SH boney-ass broads into a real food store. Everyone is getting real sick and tired of the Schmit's/La Parmagina/Tates price gouging and crap quality (ok, Tates excluded on that one). I vote for Whole Foods first because of the healthy selections and reasonable prices on prepared foods. Trader Joe's would be my second choice, you will never see better prices on cheese and snack/convenience/party foods. Some new competition = a good thang." Oct 6, 10 3:55 PM

Uh, please! The Citarella machine is just putting spin on the very bad PR they are getting for the Tutto & Water Mill closings and how they treated those employees. I hope this "consolidation" is going to re-set the employee morale at the Bridgehampton shop, because they are also a miserable bunch of people and you can see that in the attitude they project to customers. It simply comes down to Citarella milks the clientele in the summer and they make their money while the sun shines - while the staff are busting their humps. Yet in the dead of winter, Citarella seems to feel that they are doing the staff that remain on a huge favor by employing them, so they better shut their mouths and accept whatever comes their way, or there's the highway.............." Food Pantry Strugglies As Season Of Need Approaches

I also agree! The last time I drive by the food pantry distribution point in Springs,
I saw shiny brand-new Jeeps and Ford Tundras, with people milling about outside texting on their i-Pads and Blackberries, smoking (!) and little kids running around in trendy new clothes from the Gap, wearing Uggs boots. So - there's money to buy that stuff, and the flashy demonstration of conspicuous consumption. But they will still show up for the free cans of Tuna and beans because nobody asks them any "questions". Disgraceful." Oct 21, 10 11:25 AM

Westhampton Beach Eruv Proposal Moves Forward

If these Eruv Poles get pushed thru, it's the beginning of the end for these towns. Just look at what the Orthodox have done to a little hamlet Upstate called Kiryas Joel. You're darn right there will be a major shift in population, lifestyle and culture. Fight now or accept the consequences which will be major and will happen very quickly." Oct 29, 10 11:19 AM

Montauk Highway Road Work Postponed Till Next Week

PRAISE THE LORD. I have had enough over the past few years what with cracked rims, flat tires and axels/shocks that are nearly shot. Dangerous and unsafe is an understatement. How about damaging!!!! These sections of 27 are worse than the roads in third world countires. Why did they let it get so bad? I think the towns could have done the repairs a year ago and then they could have just sent the bill to the DOT." Nov 1, 10 1:06 PM

Westhampton Beach Eruv Proposal Moves Forward

I have a fundamental question here; why would any group of people desire to be in a town where they are clearly not wanted?" Nov 4, 10 11:22 AM

Possible Reprieve For East Hampton Village Pharmacy

This is really the nail in the coffin for small businesses in East Hampton. The community is really going to suffer. Very soon, there will only be chain stores & franchises running business in this town. Frank is a true small-town proprieter who knew his customers and served them well, and always was fair & sqaure with medication pricing. All of the employees there were so helpful and friendly. The end of an era in a small town that is slowly losing it's identity. I know a miracle is needed. All I can say is thank you Frank, and to all of the staff at East Hampton Pharmacy. And God help this town." Nov 5, 10 10:22 AM

The only business Ralph Lauren will help is Ralph Lauren. Stores like Ralph Lauren, Calypso, Coach, Tiffany et. al. have only contributed to the demise of this town and it's small businesses. Frank Calvo would have a better chance with a Bill Gates or a Warren Buffet, although there's only a few short hours left to save this business............" Nov 5, 10 11:14 AM

Town Finds No Takers for Poxabogue Restaurant

What a shame that we lost Mr. Murray and a great, local and much loved restaurant due to the towns ineptitude and mismanagement of the project.

Town Issues Warning Tickets To Leaf Rakers

HOW TO MANAGE LEAVES ON YOUR PROPERTY
1) Get a Rake, maybe 2
2) Rake the leaves. 2 people raking will make it go quicker.
3) get a large tarp or several contractor-size garbage bags
4) push leaves onto the tarp & tie up, or push leaves into the bags
6) load into your car
7) go to the dump & empty the tarp or bags where they tell you to
See, it wasn't that hard, all you Candy-Asses!" Nov 18, 10 2:52 PM

Hey fool Man! Candy-Asses are what my Grandpop called people who didn't take responsibility for their own property and dig in and get their hands dirty. In Grandpop's days, everyone in the family pitched in to help with the leaves, even if you were 3 years old or 93. If there was a neighbor who was too old or sick to do it, Grandpop demanded all of the young & strong men go over & help them out. And they did it gladly. My point was, back in the old days The Town was never responsible, never expected to suck up the leaves in front of every house. Yes, people burned piles of leaves and those days are over. I miss the smell. Now the experts are saying just "leave" the leaves there and let them decompose/break down and protect the lawn all winter. Nobody should have a sense of entitlement and demand expensive machines and labor from the Town take care of the leaves on their property." Nov 19, 10 4:30 PM

Quack! Bite your tongue....PLEASE, NO McDonalds or Burger King in East Hampton EVER. How about a co-operative Fish Market, let's support our local guys and keep the money in this community instead of sending it out of the community to global corporations.

Southampton Village Officials Short On Reasons For Poor Snow Removal

Waaahhhhh! What a bunch of candy-asses. Can't even deal with a snowstorm. The town can't do everything for you - one has to take responsibility for snow management & safe travel into their own hands.
1) LISTEN and TAKE SERIOUSLY the weather reports (this was forecast to be a bad one at least 3 days in advance)
2) Prepare in advance and get all of your shopping, gas, errands done to tide you over for a few days. Make provisions to work from home if you can.
3) STAY OFF THE ROADS AND LET THESE GUYS DO THEIR JOBS AND PLOW.
Further to this, do not attempt road travel until the "all clear" reports are in.
Leave the roads free for plowers and emergency vehicles.
4) Get on a good pair of boots and get a shovel. Clear your property and help your neighbors out. That's what they did in the "old" days when no plowing or shoveling was done for you by other people! Quack!" Jan 14, 11 10:42 AM

Attorney Asks For $70 Million Judgment Against Southampton Town

$70 MILLION!!! Why doesn't this nut job try for $70 Billion. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME. When you mess around a military installment, take photos, and have a carload of ammunition.......well, in this day & age the authorities did the right thing and followed the right procedures. Arab or not, removing her from the situation into legal custody, and releasing the information was the right way to go. If any kind of default judgment is made this will be a real travesty of justice and a huge waste of taxpayer dollars. QUACK!" Feb 8, 11 3:25 PM
