EDITORIAL: We Mark Our Ballot

I am not being sarcastic, my teaparty compatriot! I don't understand why you don't get it. What have I said that my fellow baggers have not? NOTHING! I've got no point to make beyond a teaparty patriot platform that is near and dear to my heart and yours: get the government out of our lives, make abortion illegal and erase the separation of church and state, abolish that Obamacare plan that actually forces private, free-market insurance companies to cover sick people, arrest people that look illegal, get rid of clean drinking water, clean energy and mexicans and stomp on liberal necks! Keep on baggin', bro, and, like our compatriot from Connecticut once said, "I'm you"" Oct 28, 10 9:31 PM

joe hampton is right! Those commie, maoists on the left HATE America! It is clear as the oil stain on Dick Cheney's forehead! They want to regulate oil companies, make mines safe for workers, create clean energy jobs, stop bigotry, and prevent banks from doing as they please - and they are actually proud of it! Mackt and joe hampton, our republic cannot be allowed to remain in the hands of women who want to choose and loonies who want clean drinking water!

We need to get government out of our lives! That is why I and my fellow teapartiers support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and a federal law banning abortion, so we can keep things at the state level. Why don't they get that?! They think America is about tolerance, but they are wrong! The founding fathers would have given corporations the same rights as individual citizens, because they would have embraced the FREE market. Get it, commies, FREE market, you dumb liberal sissies!

Thank god for good old fashioned, middle age white men like, true patriots like joe hampton and mack t, big razza, captn America and even a woman like hmptnlocal! They would never allow a woman the right to choose or someone whose been working here for 20 years to become a citizen! They wont' allow the government to tell banks they cannot raise credit card rates or to tell coal mine owners that they must keep working conditions safe because they HATE America. They hate OUR America!! White America!! And they are all nothing but a bunch of commie sympathizers that don' t deserve to be called Americans.

Teapartiers - yeah we are full of hate and anger, but we only hate those who think different than us because WE ARE PATRIOTS like sarah palin, sharon angle, christine o'donnell and ken buck!! They know what it means to keep the feds out of our lives and they know there should be a federal law banning those baby killing marxists! KEEP ON BAGGIN!" Oct 29, 10 8:12 AM

Ballot Count Begins; Altschuler Travels To Washington

Yeah, what do you want guys like Randy to do? Keep jobs here?! Give us a break, you commie lefties! Sure, Randy shipped tens of thousands of US jobs to India, but he only did it to make money! Ever heard of the "FREE Market"?! That means Randy is free to make money by any means possible and he does, so what?

RealityFirst is right, Randy could have sneaked over illegals to do his job, but that would have cost money and time and, besides, like Randy said, there is a better class of worker in India than in the US.

A real business man like Randy does not let a little thing like democracy stop him from making money. Why should he wait for a vote count? " Nov 12, 10 2:48 PM

Listen, I am the last one that would actually encourage someone to act on principal! Like you, I believe that principals have no place in the free market! I applaud Randy for looking after number one. (by the way, I think its "principle" not "principal", not that I'd ever question a fellow patriot!)

And your right it was well worth sacrificing ten thousand working class jobs to save the skin of the one or two hundred upper management patriots - trickle down, people! It works!" Nov 12, 10 3:19 PM

Hey, bro, I am on your side! Randy was only trying make his fortune. By the way, what I said was what you said, the high paying management jobs were CREATED by outsourcing 10,000 jobs to India and I support Randy 1000% in his un-principled desire to make as much moolah as possible! Dude, I am a free market-patriot! I don't need any business experience to know that my man Randy got fat on the backs of the average worker - I only wish I could do the same! Keep on baggin', bro and fight the REAL power, those communist union Marxists who want to help the little guy. Yeah, right! Not in our America!!" Nov 12, 10 3:39 PM

The baggers helped us keep the senate and it looks like these unthinking, dittoheads are going to help us in 2010 as well!

"The number of Americans viewing Sarah Palin unfavorably has hit the highest point since she burst onto the national stage over two years ago, according to a poll out Friday.

The Gallup survey conducted in the days after the Nov. 2 election found more than half of Americans -- 52 percent -- hold a negative opinion of the former Alaska governor. Only 40 percent viewed her favorably, which ties her lowest score from about a year ago.

Palin, the GOP's vice presidential candidate in 2008, is among Republican names being floated as a possible presidential pick in two years time. The poll found she might have a good chance of capturing the nomination: fully 80 percent of Republicans have a positive opinion of her. "" Nov 13, 10 3:06 PM

Now, now reality-first, aren't you the same teabagging dittohead that cried about being called names? Do unto others, bagger. Do unto others. " Nov 13, 10 3:10 PM

Joe is the anti-intellects hero. " Nov 13, 10 3:11 PM

I know it is hard to swallow the truth with that teabag lodged in your throat, but at least attempt to use what little bit of intellect you may actually possess." Nov 13, 10 3:12 PM

Oh, there's big, brave Razza attacking the immigrants again. Why? Because he and his ilk are the worst kind of cowards. They fight those who can't fight back and they play the puppet for folks like Dick Armey and their corporate overlords.

The weakest among us always scapegoat those at the very bottom of society. A teabagger is nothing more than a fascist tool." Nov 13, 10 3:15 PM

1. For folks like you it is anyone who looks Latino.
2. You may not consider yourself an official member, but you spew their talking points as though you were the founder
3. Undocumented workers are a NET POSITIVE to our country. Period. Fact. If you were to deport 12 million workers our economy would collapse. And, yes, they do jobs that Americans won't.
4. "I know you are but what am I"" Nov 13, 10 6:25 PM

Msmarple is vying for the role of most ignorant, rightwing dittohead on 27East and she is pretty close to beating little razza" Nov 13, 10 9:49 PM

You folks on the right need to wake up and face reality of what a plutocracy really looks like. Read this: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/14/us/politics/14coats.html?_r=1" Nov 14, 10 8:59 AM

HAH! LOVE IT! I AM RAZZA HEAR ME ROAR!" Nov 14, 10 9:00 AM

captn, could you just once admit the truth, please. Just once. The republicans want to give permanent tax breaks to the rich, they want to lower the tax rate for massive corporations that already pay next to nothing after loop holes, the right-appointed activist supreme court just ruled that corporations are people, they blocked a bill that would have stopped tax breaks for outsourcing, they blocked subpoena power in the investigation of BP, the want to deregulate, they blocked campaign finance reform, the list goes on and on and to deny it is to deny there is a difference in philosophy between the parties is pure nonsense.

Term limits? I support them, always have, but that makes no difference to the fact that the republicans are the party of plutocrats. " Nov 14, 10 11:04 AM

When the average middle class worker pays at a higher tax rate than a billion dollar corporation, we have a problem. Every plutocracy needs its complicit tool and that role is filled with stunningly ignorant blindness by folks like you and the captn. If you think it is fair that GE paid zero tax dollars in 2009 because of loopholes, then you are a plutocrat. Small businesses (not the republican definition which includes billion dollar hedge funds) are the economic engine of this country. " Nov 14, 10 4:21 PM

"most of the school age families do not pay taxes" It is the blatant, boastful ignorance of the right that is simply beyond all reason. Seriously, you folks scream and yell but never take time to think.

To attend a public school, you must live in that school's district (and YES, they DO CHECK). That means you live in a house or an apartment. That house or apartment, if you do not own it, belongs to someone who does. That person pays property taxes with the income from your rent. Those property taxes pay for schools. By the way, the rich pay a lower tax rate than middle class Americans and 95% of ALL AMERICANS are paying less taxes now than they have since the 1950's. " Nov 15, 10 9:28 AM

Hey, capt'n bagger, guess what, despite all of your screaming and yelling to convince folks otherwise, the insurance industry is STILL controlled by private insurers. The rate increases, which have gone up steadily every year for as long as anyone can remember, have nothing to do with "obamacare". " Nov 15, 10 9:30 AM

Some more for you to chew on, capt'n bagger: If "Obamacare" is such a terrible gov't takeover, then how do you explain that health insurance profits are skyrocketing in 2010 compared to last year's returns? Not that you care as you would rather see a fellow American go uninsured than to see gov't try to control these criminals. " Nov 15, 10 11:41 AM

Nonsense. In my district they come to the door and check every single year. Period. And when they have found violators, they have been removed and I have seen it happen.

As for the rest, you would deny a child, any child, a free lunch? " Nov 15, 10 12:02 PM

Life with the teaparty:

"In the video, the Neo-Nazi march organizer, J.T. Ready, can be seen explaining to a group of protesters that the assault of his members is not acceptable.

Ready reportedly shares a connection to SB-1070 architect and Arizona state Rep. Russell Pearce (R).

Though Pearce denied having knowledge of Ready's involvement with the National Socialist Movement during his alleged proximity to the group's organizer in 2007, when Ready was in the midst of being ousted from a low-level GOP post, a video released last year showed Pearce in attendance at a 2009 rally headlined by Ready.

As ThinkProgress points out, the alliance between white-supremacy groups and Arizona's anti-illegal immigration legislation appears to be more than a matter of personal associations.

According to an immigration report from change.org earlier this year, numerous groups linked to white nationalist causes have provided monetary support to Arizona's SB-1070, both in its early stages as well as to its legal defense fund."" Nov 15, 10 12:03 PM

I don't want my tax dollars paying for some bigot's children to go to school." Nov 15, 10 12:04 PM

This just in: Randy mistakenly shows up for orientation at Indian Embassy." Nov 15, 10 1:21 PM

This is the party about to take control and before you teabagging dittoheads deride the source, it is the conservative propaganda rag The Washington Post. Americans, fear for our future.

Republican irresponsibility on START
By Adam Serwer
The Republican attempt to derail ratification of the new START arms control treaty with Russia is a reminder of how far the GOP is willing to go merely to deal the president a political defeat.

Ratification of the new START treaty shouldn't be controversial. It maintains a basic trend in the reduction of the U.S. and Russia's nuclear arsenals that started in the 1980s, when the first START treaty was proposed by President Reagan, signed by his successor, George H.W. Bush, and ratified by the Senate by overwhelming margins. The current military leadership and a number of Republican foreign policy experts, including Former Secretaries of State James Baker, George Schultz, Henry Kissinger and Colin Powell have urged ratification, and three Senate Republicans actually voted the treaty out of committee. That's left the arguments against ratification to the GOP's foreign policy fringe, whose objections -- that the treaty leaves the U.S. with "only" thousands of nuclear weapons, undermines U.S. efforts at missile defense, and limits the use of conventional warheads -- are as Fred Kaplan points out, basically nonsense. That hasn't stopped conservatives from engaging in a dishonest propaganda campaign against the treaty, hoping to deal the president a humiliating political defeat." Nov 17, 10 12:59 PM

kayleesh, what a classy chic you are. Typical of the sexually frustrated the right-wing female. Don't blame philathome because your husband refuses you." Nov 17, 10 1:02 PM

The Washington Post is a one of the most liberal newspapers in the country? Mr. Wheeler, at least try to begin your argument from a foundation of reality. You have bought this whole lie of the "liberal media" when, in fact, it is the exact opposite. The Washington Post has one of the most conservative editorial pages in the business and that is how you determine which way a paper leans.

I suggest you read this:

"When I began thinking about doing a column about recent developments on The Washington Post editorial page, I was torn between focusing on its increasing conservatism and its overall badness. The problem, however, is that the two appear inextricably linked. Is the problem with George Will’s constant global warming denialism ideological or intellectual? Is David Broder’s misinformed love letter to Sarah Palin indicative of a desire to ingratiate himself to Republican Tea Partiers or continued evidence of the deterioration of his ability to apply common sense to political analysis? Was the Post’s decision to add former Bush administration official and vocal pro-torture advocate Marc Thiessen to its bevy of pro-torture advocates and former Republican officials more important for its right-wing tilt or its implied contempt for traditional journalistic values? Hard to say, really."

Killing the Poor Instead of Taxing the Wealthy in Arizona
Wednesday 17 November 2010
by: Matt Renner, t r u t h o u t | Op-Ed

If you happen to be sick and poor and are among the 98 people in Arizona who are awaiting state-funded organ transplants, you've just been handed a death sentence.

This morning, NPR reported on cuts to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), the statewide health care provider for poor and disabled people. AHCCCS said it would pay for organ transplant procedures, then went back and reversed itself, citing risk evidence that critics say was tailored to give them cover for this unthinkable action.

Instead of trying to save the lives of these people, who had been told that they had a chance to spend a few more years with their families, the Arizona legislature has chosen to take away their hope in order to save an estimated $4.5 million.

Facing a projected $1.5 billion budget deficit, the state of Arizona has decided to make poor people pay with their lives instead of making rich people pay with their treasure." Nov 17, 10 2:56 PM

Senate Republicans Vote Unanimously Against Bill to Help Guarantee Fair Pay for Women
Wednesday 17 November 2010
by: Rebecca Lefton | Think Progress | Report

Today, Senate Republicans voted unanimously against legislation to close the pay gap between women and men. The Senate voted 58-41 against allowing debate on the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would help end discriminatory pay practices against women. It had already passed the House.

More than 45 years after passage of the Equal Pay Act, the pay gap shockingly persists with women still earning on average 77 cents to every man’s dollar. According to the National Women’s Law Center, “This persistent pay gap translates to more than $10,000 in lost wages per year for the average female worker.” The gap is even worse for women of color: African-American women earn 61 cents and Latinas earn 52 cents for every dollar a white non-Hispanic man earns." Nov 17, 10 6:34 PM

Total Teabagger b s. Unlike the republican bank bailout, the auto bailout saved hundreds of thousands of jobs and the citizens will make a profit. I love listening to all of these fascist tools crying about socialism! I guess it is difficult to swallow the truth with a teabag lodged in your throat. And now they're blocking Reagan's own START treaty, equal pay for women and unemployment benefits extensions? TOO" Nov 18, 10 12:59 PM

How about we cut the crap and speak some truth. The last couple of days have shown us just what a colossal mistake Americans made this election and the party of f-u has not even taken power.

Yesterday every single Republican voted AGAINST fair pay for women. Every single one. And now they are threatening to block ratification of the START treaty. Every single president and every single secretary of state since and including Ronald Reagan has recognized the importance of this treaty to our national security and our place in this world and it has ALWAYS been ratified by margins of 95 to 5 and 99 to 0.

But not now. Not in this world of republican sobs who don't give a flying f___ about this country or its citizens. They only want to destroy the president and they don't care how. They don't care. Period. Fact. End of story. Today's NY Times editorial pretty much sums it up:

"After months of negotiations with the White House, he has decided to try to block the lame-duck Senate from ratifying the New Start arms control treaty.
The treaty is so central to this country’s national security, and the objections from Mr. Kyl — and apparently the whole Republican leadership — are so absurd that the only explanation is their limitless desire to deny President Obama any legislative success.

The Republicans like to claim that they are the party of national security. We can only hope that other senators in the party will decide that the nation’s security interests must trump political maneuvering."

If this is the kind of country the rethugs want one more outsourcing dittohead will not make much of a difference. " Nov 18, 10 1:37 PM

No, what difference could it possibly make whether or not we elect a man who outsourced tens of thousand of American jobs to fatten his own pockets and those of his friends or a man who has dedicated much of his life to public service? Anyone interested in reasoned, sane, factual information on the truth behind tax cuts read the article here http://www.truth-out.org/the-great-tax-cut-debate-myths-and-facts65294

an excerpt:

"Republicans portray the Bush tax cuts as similar to President John F. Kennedy's. That is a poor analogy. Kennedy cut the top tax rate from an exorbitant 91 percent to 70 percent. In contrast, Bush cut the top tax rate from a historically low 39.6 percent to 35 percent. By increasing enforcement and cracking down on loopholes, including the use of foreign subsidiaries for tax evasion, Kennedy increased government revenue. On the other hand, the Bush rich tax cuts will cost the nation $700 billion dollars in government revenue, and Republicans are fighting limiting outsourcing and foreign loopholes. In part due to a smart taxation policy, Kennedy created 1.2 million jobs per year in office; Bush was losing 700,000 jobs a month his last year.

The current political climate is hostile to real accountability – and to the kind of journalism that keeps accountability alive. Keep lawmakers and corporations in check by supporting Truthout today.

"Trickle-down" economics has not worked since Herbert Hoover tried it. Every dollar devoted to the middle class causes the economy to grow three times faster than a dollar for the rich, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Millionaires save more of their income gained by tax cuts. Middle-class families spend more. Lower taxes for the rich leave deficits that must be paid for by the middle class, taking the very money we'd give working families.

Since 1900, Democratic presidents have produced a 12.3 percent annual return on the S&P 500, Republicans only 8 percent. GDP growth since 1930 is 5.4 percent for Democratic presidents and 1.6 percent for Republicans."" Nov 21, 10 12:21 PM

What a lazy posting.

He went there to create jobs here. If you would pay attention to what actually happens, you would be able to do more than spew talking points. I have never seen a group of people so eager to bash a president over every single thing he does. And don't say Bush because it just ain't true.

from CBS NEWS:

"President Obama stayed for three days in India in order to discuss economic relations between the two countries as well as offering support to India in its attempt to get a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. Obama dismissed the popular notion that outsourcing has led to India taking American jobs, instead he painted his trip as one encouraging the Indian government to open the country’s market to American exports, thereby creating jobs for Americans. The CBS Evening News has reported that a series of 6 separate deals that have been in the works between Indian and U.S. businesses would create 50,000 American jobs."" Nov 21, 10 1:42 PM

Yeah, if they apply to the middle class, not the rich. The left is for TAX CUTS TO THE MIDDLE CLASS - those making 250,000 and under so try to pay attention.

You want to talk about something that is not up for discussion: In 2009 Americans paid the lowest tax rate since the 1950's! That is a freaking FACT so try to wrap your head around it.

"Amid complaints about high taxes and calls for a smaller government, Americans paid their lowest level of taxes last year since Harry Truman's presidency, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data found."

http://www.usatoday.com/money/perfi/taxes/2010-05-10-taxes_N.htm

Amid Recession, Tax Bills in 2009 at Lowest Level Since 1950

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Tax/amid-recession-tax-bills-2009-lowest-level-1950/story?id=10613863

Federal, state and local taxes — including income, property, sales and other taxes — consumed 9.2% of all personal income in 2009, the lowest rate since 1950, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports. That rate is far below the historic average of 12% for the last half-century. WASHINGTON -- Billionaire Warren Buffett rebutted claims that the Obama administration is unjustly hurting business orders with high taxes by saying that in fact, the wealthy have never had it so good.

"I think that people at the high end, people like myself, should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we've ever had it," he told ABC's Christiane Amanpour in a clip played on "This Week" on Sunday.

When Amanpour pointed to critics' claims that the very wealthy need tax cuts to spur business and capitalism, Buffett replied, "The rich are always going to say that, you know, 'Just give us more money, and we'll go out and spend more, and then it will all trickle down to the rest of you.' But that has not worked the last 10 years, and I hope the American public is catching on."" Nov 21, 10 2:13 PM

Is that ronnie the spender come back from the grave to remind republican/baggers that he just failed your purity test:

1. Deficit spending soared during Reagan’s presidency. Strike one.

2. As governor of California, Reagan oversaw the development of Medi-Cal, the nation’s largest Medicaid program — expanding it to cover long-term care and developing massive new managed care systems. Strike two.

3. As governor of California, Reagan established the Air Resources Board to battle California’s smog problems and supported aggressive government intervention where the market had failed to protect the environment. As president, Reagan signed more wilderness protection laws — which restrict private-sector exploitation of natural resources — than any president in history. Strike three.

4. Reagan was a former union president who campaigned against the Taft-Hartley Act and other restrictions of the right of unions to organize. Strike four.

5. Reagan signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which granted amnesty to most undocumented workers who could prove they had been in the country continuously for the previous five years. After he finished his presidency, Reagan continued to speak out forcefully for immigration rights. Strike five.

6. After the 1983 bombing of a Marine barracks in Beirut, Reagan was urged by some to surge more troops into the region. Instead, he ordered the Marines to begin withdrawal from Lebanon. Strike six.

7. Reagan acknowledged that during his presidency the U.S. sold weapons to Iran. Strike seven.

8. Reagan was the first president to invite an openly gay couple to spend the night in the White House, and he famously argued that gays and lesbians should not be discriminated against in a 1978 television advertising campaign. Strike eight.

9. Shortly after his inauguration as governor of California, Reagan signed into law the most liberal abortion statute of its day. Strike nine.

10. Here’s Reagan, in 1991, on gun control: “I support the Brady Bill, and I urge the Congress to enact it without further delay.” Strike 10." Nov 21, 10 2:18 PM

Barbara Bush has shared her thoughts on Sarah Palin, and it sounds as if she hopes the former Alaska governor decides against running for president.

"I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful, and I think she's very happy in Alaska," Bush said, before adding, "and I hope she'll stay there."

The former first lady made the comments in an interview with Larry King, which will air Monday night on "Larry King Live."" Nov 21, 10 3:03 PM

Altschuler playing dirty politics. This says all you need to know about this man

BLOGSMONDAY MONDAY
Altschuler’s Unsubstantiated Accusations
Randy Altschuler’s latest press release may be the most provocative statement to come out of either camp since the election began. In it, Altschuler accuses Bishop of disenfranchisement and ‘stealing’ the election through one of his advisers.
http://thinksb.com/2010/11/altschulers-unsubstantiated-accusations/" Nov 23, 10 8:28 AM

Joe says for women, "especially liberal Jewish women" it is all about abortion, yet he was the one who broached the topic and can't stop talking about his christian conservative values.

Two things for you, joe - firstly, fc is right, you are a total bigot, second, abortion is legal in this country. If you ever get raped by your uncle and decide to have the baby, that's your choice - oh, that's right, you're a man so you really have no clue what you're talking about.

And then there is "small government" bagger, little razza who wants the government out of his life, unless of course it is about telling a woman what she can or can't do with her body.

I am going to join my fellow sane brothers and sisters and leave these boards to the loonies to argue amongst themselves. Their hate and bigotry will eat them alive and, in the end, since they consider themselves good Christian soldiers, they'll be judged by whatever higher being they believe in - and not favorably.

As others have pointed out, these boards have become a haven for racists, bigots, and wingnut baggers, but remember, just as they proved during the health care debate, they have nothing to offer beyond stomping their feet and whining like children.

To Altschuler - You destroyed the lives of thousands of Americans. eff you.

Good luck, Mr. Bishop." Nov 23, 10 8:40 AM

What teachers do is perform and invaluable service in this "real world". Our schools exist to educate our children. Our teachers do that and paying teachers a proper salary IS fiscally responsible.

Now, if you are talking about what they're planning to do over at Tuckahoe spending 100 grand to build "on-campus" housing for a superintendent who makes $155,000/year - THAT is called fiscal irresponsibility and it is something upon which I am sure we could both agree. http://www.27east.com/news/article.cfm/Tuckahoe/315188/Tuckahoe-Superintendent-Wants-to-Live-In-On-Campus-House-Informational-Meeting-Set-For-December-13

By investing that money in kids and not real estate. A public school should not be a freaking landlord. Why does this school have a surplus? I would guess it would be in case of an emergency. My kids went to private school and we never would have allowed such an expenditure. A public elementary school spending taxpayer money on "on-campus housing" is a precedent we do not want being set.
