The deal that went down at Poxabogue is a shame. The people involved with making the change may want to look up the definition of "hubris". The Poxabogue Cafe was a well liked and popular breakfast and lunch spot. The public overwhelmingly supported their continued presence there. The government officials new better and pushed out Murray. Are we all better off now? No restaurant, no revenue... Nice job! Too bad the people responsible will never be held responsible. Business as usual." Nov 15, 10 8:03 PM

Anders, I am sorry to say I have to agree. I've lived in Southampton Town for almost 30 years and have always read the SH Press; first in print and later online. It certainly seems that lately they put up these big headlines and 24 hours later forget the story was ever printed. As a reader I am baffled as to how the editorial staff can just "forget" about a story. In contrast some of the extremely small web news sources with 1 or 2 people on staff have more new daily content and much quicker updates than the more traditional sources like the SH Press and EH Star. End of an era I guess..." Sep 11, 12 6:27 PM

Bush had 7.5 years after 9/11 to take the steps you mention above. Guess he was too busy cuttin' brush and fighting phony wars to invest in actual homeland security. How is this Napolitano's fault?" Nov 4, 12 4:13 PM
What does Obama have to with this? If we're going to hold presidents responsible for the country's economy, then let's place the blame on the guy who incurred 2/3 of the present deficit, and left Obama with a higher unemployment rate than we have now. That would be George W. Bush (I know most Republicans would prefer to forget/deny his tenure).
Its been a tough road for all small businesses. I can say things are way better for me than they were 5 years ago. Its a shame the small gas station owners are at a complete disadvantage when competing against large chains. Sorry to see Georgica services leave the village." Jan 22, 13 12:28 PM
Your handle is rather ironic. Enough other folks weighed in below so I won't add any more. Read the articles cited and try to understand that wars, corporate tax gifts, and lower overall taxes are a big part of the picture. Hey Chief, I guess the problem with all the pedophile priests is "lack of god." Give me a break. People act the way way they do because they are who they are. If you believe there is an omnipotent god then he/she/it is responsible for everything, good or bad, that happens in this world. Its all part of the plan..." Feb 2, 13 7:27 PM
I sincerely hope that someone is paying serious attention to Wilson's allegations. I know I am one of many who are sick and tired of watching those in charge blatantly ignore their sworn duties in to further their own agendas. Our society is falling apart because the people whom we have entrusted to enforce the law are frequently the worst violators. In my opinions cops who break the law or look the other way are worse than common criminals. The same goes for the people in town hall who are complicit in allowing this to happen right under their noses. I strongly suspect plenty of people knew what was going on and simply turned a blind eye. The whole situation is sickening..." Mar 7, 13 10:59 PM
It does look pretty cut and dried from what the surveys show. Judge Smith has to be more careful than Mr.Gugliotta as unless her case is iron clad she'll be accused of using her position in the town/village to intimidate her neighbor. Even if there is an adverse possession claim here on Judge Wilson's part it could come back to bite her at election time..." Apr 12, 13 8:35 PM
I get it! But life is different now than it was in the 40's and 50's. Property on Elm Street is now worth a fortune and properties will be renovated, landscaped and inevitably trade hands. Since the parties obviously can't resolve this amicably then the surveys are the the bottom line. As stated clearly above, if Wilson's driveway is indeed on her neighbor's property it will be an impediment to his abilty to sell and she should move it. Good driveways make good neighbors:)" Apr 13, 13 1:17 PM
"Judges must demonstrate their commitment to maintaining public confidence in
the integrity and impartiality of their decisions by considering how the public
might reasonably view their conduct." to quote Cynthia Gray.
Regardless of who is correct here from a legal standpoint, Justice Wilson's actions are not becoming of an elected Town/Village Justice. Part of the responsibility she has in her position is to always act in a manner so that there is no appearance of impropriety. She has failed at this and is only embarrassing herself by continuing to act in this childish fashion." Apr 15, 13 9:54 PM

I've had them all over the years and Verizon has the most reliable coverage in the most areas in Eastern Suffolk. None of them are perfect but Verizon has the edge. The FCC website will tell you where all the cell towers are, who owns them and what frequencies they operate on. Once gain, Verizon has the edge out here.
Part of the problem in the summer is that cell towers are overwhelmed and simply can't handle the # of calls or provide the bandwidth they need to support to provide reliable voice and data service. Sandydog21's comments are correct; carriers throttle service and drop in process calls to allow new callers to have access.
The solution is to let the town governments know that you want them to allow more towers and then only to elect officials who are on board." Jul 21, 13 7:17 PM
I have a comment and a few questions.
1. The bus driver had to make a judgement about how much time he needed to pull out and cross one lane of oncoming traffic and clear a very large vehicle from that lane and at least be in the center lane or hopefully the east bound lane before being hit. If oncoming vehicles are travelling at the 35 mph speed limit they are travelling about 50 feet/second and if the bus driver estimated 10 seconds to clear the lane (that seems very quick to me) the approaching vehicle would be about 500 feet away when he pulled out. If the oncoming vehicle in this case, say was going 55 mph, then he would be covering about 80 feet/second and he would cover the 500 feet in about 6.5 seconds rather than 10 seconds. Since the Bus was hit in the front the garbage truck was either going much faster than 55 mph or the bus driver just cut it way too close. The mathematical reality here is that the bus needs a factor of safety and he needs too add 50% to his best guess at how much time he has to clear the lane in order to account for speed variations that are reasonable to expect from oncoming traffic. Police don't expect any charges??? Really? Someone was at error!
2. Why are so many people medevaced with non life threatening injuries. Why bother having a hospital with an ER 1/3 of a mile away if you're going to fly patients to Stony Brook?
3. How come they can clear Sunrise or the LIE in mid Suffolk after a fatal collision in just a few, vs. 9 hours?
These are honest questions I do not mean to be sarcastic..." Jul 29, 13 10:45 PM
I have to ask again. Does everyone now just get medevaced for non life threatening injuries? I guess the local hospitals are not capable or not accesible by ambulance, either way they are rendered worthless...

Yes, this a huge problem. I have a dash mounted camera and various videos of police officers driving while talking on their hand held cells, drinking coffee, no seat belts. The biggest violations I have seen though are rolling stops and no turn signal. The record so far is 6 turns without a signal! Its tough to convince people laws are important when the enforcers routinely ignore them..." Aug 24, 13 3:06 PM
