The lone seat up for election in the Sagaponack School District will be uncontested after a former school board member signed up to run for a seat being vacated by current board member Lauren Thayer. Thayer, who has been on the board for six years, chose not to run for a third term, but former board member Brian Villante agreed to run to return to the board in her place. The School Board race in Riverhead will be uncontested this year, as board Vice President Brian Connelly will seek another three-year term. He will be joined by newcomer Kelly Freeborn on the ballot. Current President Colin Palmer is not seeking another term. Connelly, who lives in Riverhead, is a New York City firefighter. He and his wife, Bonnie, have two children, a daughter who is a sophomore at Riverhead High School and another who attends college. Suellen Tunney, 46, a sales representative for a Manhattan wine distributor, will run for the seat being vacated by incumbent Jennifer Ashley, and Dr. Mary Greiner, an associate professor of education at Queens College and the board’s current vice president, will seek another three-year term.
