Neighboring Lots On Georgica Pond Ask $29.5 Million

It isn’t every day that one can purchase 7 acres on Georgica Pond—or maybe it is, as two adjacent parcels are once again back on the market with a total ask of $29.5 million. True, that is a lot of dough, but earlier in 2017, those properties had been on the market for a combined $85 million.

We better explain. The Real Deal is also reporting that two neighboring lots on Chauncey Close in East Hampton with more than 7 acres of waterfront are back on the market. The Georgica Pond properties were first listed together in 2015 with the existing home for $45 million, then in 2016 the price was reduced to $32 million. But earlier this year, the new tab was $85 million when plans for the construction of a new 14,000-square foot home were also included. Those plans are not part of the new offering.

The 6,000-square-foot house at 19 Chauncey Close has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, and a historic barn. How historic—like early East Hampton historic? No, older than that. In the 1970s, the barn was broken down and shipped from Hever Castle, once home to the Boleyn family. That family’s fame, rather sadly, was that of Anne Boleyn, who had her head chopped off by her disgruntled husband, Henry VIII. The two parcels are a 3.5-acre one with the residence on it and an empty lot of 3.6 acres. Together, they have 877 feet of frontage on Georgica Pond and are only a severed head’s toss from the Atlantic Ocean.

The estate belonged to Carl Tiedemann, who passed away in April 2016 at age 89. The Cleveland native grew up in New Jersey, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and began a career in sales in New York with American Cyanamid. He shifted over to Wall Street in the 1960s, and eventually he was head of the very successful Tiedemann Investment Group. Among the clubs Mr. Tiedemann belonged to was the Maidstone Club in East Hampton.
