Folks strolling by the former Muse restaurant in Sag Harbor lately may have seen that the well-located eatery, which has been dark for months, is now abuzz with activity as it prepares, under new ownership, to take advantage of the summer season (assuming it ever stops raining). In addition, the Urban Zen sign that used to be found on Bay Street is now affixed to the outside of the building. What is that all about?
Published reports in the spring had the building being bought by a company affiliated with the fashion designer Donna Karan, and that her daughter Gabby would operate a new edition of Tutto Il Giorno there. We can now report that, indeed, 16 Main Street has sold, and at the handsome purchase price of $6,100,000. In Sag Harbor’s version of musical chairs, the former Urban Zen shop on Bay Street now features a Goop outlet owned by Gwyneth Paltrow.
In recent years, running a successful restaurant at 16 Main has been a challenge. The list of casualties includes Peter Miller’s, JLX Bistro, La Maison and Pomme Café. Muse gave it the old college try, but once it found greener pastures on the other side of the Napeague Stretch, the Montauk location received the love formerly given to Sag Harbor.
It has been a busy couple of weeks in real estate in the village. Another closing was for 100 Bay Street, which sold for $5,575,000. The 5,000-square-foot residence has 6 bathrooms and 7.5 baths on a half-acre. Outside there is a heated pool, and inside can be found an eat-in kitchen, a formal dining room, a hot tub and spa, a library, a media room, and a finished basement. The 18-foot cathedral ceilings are a special feature, making the home appear even more spacious.
And while we’re at it: 17 Suffolk Street has also been sold, for $4,500,000. The purchasers are Marc Rozik and Noble Bates Black. They married just this past March and are, respectively, an attorney and a broker with Douglas Elliman.
The 3,550-square-foot home on 0.4 acre has 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths. It was built in 1830, but has undergone several renovations and upgrades since then. Today it features an eat-in kitchen, a formal dining room, hot tub and spa, a heated pool, and if the latter does not ward off the chill, there are seven fireplaces. A bonus is the large covered porch that looks out onto the property’s lush trees and garden beds.
