LongHouse Reserve is partnering with Guild Hall to present a special evening with Julian Schnabel on Wednesday, July 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. The director will be in attendance for the screening of his film “At Eternity’s Gate” starring Willem Dafoe and the event is in anticipation of LongHouse’s upcoming summer benefit, which honors Mr. Schnabel as well as designer Donna Karan.
“At Eternity’s Gate” explores the life of Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh during a self-imposed exile in Arles and Auvers-Sur-Oise, France, where he develops his unique, colorful style of painting. While grappling with religion, mental illness and a tumultuous friendship with French artist Paul Gauguin, van Gogh begins to focus on his relationship with eternity rather than the pain his art causes him in the present.
Tickets for the film are $25 ($23 members) at guildhall.org or 631-324-4050. Guild Hall is at 158 Main Street, East Hampton.
LongHouse Reserve’s Summer Benefit will be held on Saturday, July 20, at 6 p.m., on the grounds of the sculpture garden, 133 Hands Creek Road, East Hampton where Mr. Schnabel will receive the LongHouse Award and Ms. Karan will be honored with the Leadership Award. Artist Laurie Anderson will create a special performance for the evening. Tickets start at $650 at longhouse.org.
