UPDATE: Wednesday, 9 a.m.

The Suffolk County Arson Squad was called to the scene of the Seven Ponds Road fire early Wednesday morning, the Southampton Town Police have confirmed.

The Southampton Town Fire Marshal’s office was on the scene of the fire all night and called the Arson Squad in to investigate, although Town Police did not know what prompted the call. More information was not immediately available, and no one from the Fire Marshal’s office was available for comment.

ORIGINAL STORY

Several East End fire departments responded to the scene of a house fire on Seven Ponds Road in Southampton Tuesday evening.

The Southampton Fire Department responded to the scene at 18 Seven Ponds Road at 7:12 p.m. and found the house fully engulfed in flames.

As of 8:24 p.m., the house was completely destroyed, and fire officials expected to remain on the scene for several hours. It was unclear what caused the blaze.

Hampton Bays, North Sea, Sag Harbor, and Bridgehampton fire departments all responded to the scene, as did the Southampton Village and Southampton Volunteer ambulances.

Southampton Fire Chief Dennis Roy is in charge on scene.
