There will be a contested race for three seats on the Bridgehampton School Board this year, with two incumbents — Vice President Jo Ann Comfort and board member Angela Chmielewski — seeking reelection, and two newcomers, Nicole DeCastri Zabala and Merritt Thomas, entering the race. Comfort was voted into her role as vice president during last year’s reorganization meeting. Current President Jenn Vinski was also named president at that time, filling the vacancy left by Ron White, who resigned before the end of his term. The lone seat up for election in the Sagaponack School District will be uncontested after a former school board member signed up to run for a seat being vacated by current board member Lauren Thayer. Thayer, who has been on the board for six years, chose not to run for a third term, but former board member Brian Villante agreed to run to return to the board in her place. Villante, a father of two former Sagaponack School students, is a former president of the board. He is unopposed.

The School Board race in Riverhead will be uncontested this year, as board Vice President Brian Connelly will seek another three-year term. He will be joined by newcomer Kelly Freeborn on the ballot. Current President Colin Palmer is not seeking another term. Connelly, who lives in Riverhead, is a New York City firefighter. He and his wife, Bonnie, have two children, a daughter who is a sophomore at Riverhead High School and another who attends college. Two candidates will run unopposed for the Remsenburg-Speonk School Board. Suellen Tunney, 46, a sales representative for a Manhattan wine distributor, will run for the seat being vacated by incumbent Jennifer Ashley, and Dr. Mary Greiner, an associate professor of education at Queens College and the board’s current vice president, will seek another three-year term. Tunney and her husband, Kevin Tunney, have lived in Remsenburg since 2017.
