Man Arrested And Charged For 2013 Noyac Home Invasion May 7, 14 9:37 AM

A 19-year-old man was arrested this week in connection with a 2013 home invasion in Noyac, in which he is accused of having held a family at gunpoint before fleeing with approximately $18,000 in cash.

Daniel W. Claud Jr., 19, of Tuckahoe was arrested by Southampton Town Police at 11:20 a.m. last Thursday, May 1. Detectives declined to say where he was arrested or what led them to him.

Authorities said that on the evening of October 16, 2013, Mr. Claud and another male suspect, who has not been identified and remains at large, entered a home on Widener Lane in Noyac and held several occupants of the house at gunpoint, taking cash from the home. No one was hurt in the robbery.

Mr. Claud, who was 18 at the time of the incident, and the other individual both displayed guns during the home invasion, according to police; one was holding a shotgun and the other a revolver. The two stole approximately $18,000 in cash before fleeing the scene.

After the robbery, a K-9 unit and a Suffolk County Police helicopter were called in to assist with the search for the two suspects, but to no avail.

Town Police Detective Sergeant Lisa Costa declined to comment this week on the status of the department’s search for the other person involved, citing the ongoing investigation.

At his arraignment on Friday morning in Southampton Town Justice Court in Hampton Bays, Mr. Claud was charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary, both felonies, as well as fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

Mr. Claud did not enter a plea during Friday’s court appearance and was remanded to the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside in lieu of $500,000 cash bail. Mr. Claud, who was still incarcerated as of Tuesday afternoon, was scheduled to return to Southampton Town Justice Court on Wednesday morning.

Det. Sgt. Costa also said that the fact that Mr. Claud’s father was a former New York State Trooper had no bearing on the investigation.

“There was no delay in effecting Claud’s arrest,” Det. Sgt. Costa wrote in an email. “In this case, as in all cases that are investigated by the Southampton Town Detective Division, we work diligently to collect evidence to support strong prosecutable cases.

“This is an extremely violent crime in which we are committed to fully investigating, appropriately charging and prosecuting the individuals involved,” she continued.... more
