Two women were arrested last week and charged with assault after they beat up a third woman following a softball game behind the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5350 Hall on Montauk Highway in Quogue.
Christina M. Egner, 21, and Nina M. Tripodi, 20, both of Hampton Bays, were arrested by Quogue Village Police at 7:30 p.m. last Thursday, April 9, after they attacked and injured a 19-year-old woman who is also from Hampton Bays, according to police.
The victim suffered several broken fingers and cuts to her face and abdomen during the fight, police said. She was transported by Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where she was treated and released the same day, police said.
Quogue Police said they did not know what softball league the women were playing in, or what provoked the fight. Allyn Jackson, the superintendent of the Southampton Town Parks and Recreation Department, was also unaware of what leagues were playing at the field that evening. He noted that the season for the softball leagues sponsored by Southampton Town has not yet begun.
Ms. Egner and Mr. Tripodi were both charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a violation. They are scheduled to return to Quogue Village Justice Court on June 1.
