On Saturday, June 20, Opera of the Hamptons will open its 18th season with Giacomo Puccini’s “Tosca” at Duck Walk Vineyards North in Southold at 7 p.m. The dramatic opera, full of intrigue, passion and violence, has excited audiences for more than a century and Floria Tosca, the beautiful diva at the center of the show, continues to entrance listeners around the world.

Victorien Sardou, a great French melodramatist, originally wrote “Tosca” as a dramatic vehicle for Sarah Bernhardt. Puccini understood the value and intensity of Sardou’s play and, through the efforts of Tito Ricordi, he procured the rights to develop it into an opera.

Opera of the Hamptons’ production will feature international singers Cristina Fontanelli as Tosca; Benjamin Michael Sloman as Mario Cavaradossi; Richard Cassell as Baron Scarpia; Steve Fredericks as Angelotti; Charles Bosselman as the Sacristan and the Jailer; Anthony Tolve as Spoletta; Eddie Peterson as Sciarrone; and Haley Willis as the Shepherd Boy. Martin Young, Robert Glinski, Kevin and Steven Lane will also perform.

Atarah Hazzan is the music director, Heidi Lauren Duke is the stage director, Charles Bosselman is the stage manager, and Barbara Giancola is the artistic director.

Pre-sale tickets are available for $45 and priority tickets are available for $55. Tickets will be available at the door for $55. For more information, call (631) 728-8804, e-mail operaofthehamptons@hotmail.com, or visit www.operaofthehamptons.org.
