The Southampton Writers Conference, sponsored by Stony Brook Southampton’s MFA in Writing and Literature program, convenes from Wednesday, July 8, through August 2.
Now in its third decade, the conference provides a forum for authors working in all genres and mediums to study and discuss the craft of writing under the guidance of some of the most respected writers, poets, playwrights and screenwriters.
As part of the conference, a select number of special events will be open to the public. These events include an adaptation panel featuring Pulitzer Prize-winner Marsha Norman and writer/director and iTheatrics CEO Tim McDonald on Thursday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m., and the Hamptons premiere of “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley,” on Friday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m.
Other notable events will include “A Celebration of Poetry for the Whole Family,” featuring Julie Andrews, Emma Walton Hamilton and Jim McMullan on Saturday, July 11, at 7:30 p.m., and “Three Farces and a Funeral,” starring Alan Alda, on Saturday, July 18, at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets to Saturday evening events are $35 for general admission and $10 for seniors, students and Stony Brook University faculty and staff. Weekday evening events are $25 for general admission and $10 for seniors, students and Stony Brook University faculty and staff.
