A fire damaged an unoccupied 34-foot-long boat that was being stored at the Remsenburg Marina on Dock Road Saturday night. No injuries were reported, according to the Eastport Fire Department.
A fire broke out on the twin-hull fishing boat, a Baha cruiser, at around 9:15 p.m., according to a press release issued by the fire department. Twenty-nine Eastport firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 30 minutes.
Roy Bartel, the owner of the marina, which overlooks Seatuck Cove, said the boat sustained extensive damage to its port side and cabin. No marina equipment or neighboring boats were damaged in the blaze.
According to Mr. Bartel, a man from Center Moriches owns the boat and often used it for sport fishing. Mr. Bartel said he did not know the value of the boat.
The Southampton Town Fire Marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire. The U.S. Coast Guard also responded to the scene.
