With ever-encroaching development in the area, our view of the night sky is rapidly diminishing. Last Tuesday, September 22, Southampton Town Board members met to discuss the dark skies legislation.
If being able to sit outside at night and see stars means as much to you as it does to me, please sign the petition in support of the “Southampton Outdoor Lighting Code” at ipetitions.com/petition/SH-OutdoorLighting?e. Thank you!
And while I’m talking about the night sky, I found it interesting to read about the NASA rocket that was seen around here on September 19. My husband, Ron, and I were vacationing in Chincoteague, Virginia, a couple of weeks back and the Wallops Island Flight Facility is located right nearby.
The scuttlebutt around those parts was that there was going to be a rocket launched and that we should be on the lookout for it. Well, we missed it. And it never occurred to us that we would be able to see it back here when we got home, some 350 miles away. It’s a small world.
Herman and Judy Kuhn are the proud grandparents of Emma Jane and Katelyn Elizabeth, born to their daughter, Eileen, and her husband, Bryan Hoffman, on September 10.
Saturday, September 19, was the date of a countrywide fund-raiser for the Catholic Daughters of the Americas that was hosted by St. Rosalie’s Church. Regent Eileen Cleary received so many compliments from attendees that she just might volunteer again next year!
Chairladies Rae La Magna and Maryann Heenan and their committee of Terry Amato, Rose Conti and Grace Rizzo all helped to make the event a tremendous success. The Chinese auction was a hit with its 25 beautifully decorated baskets and sweepstakes’ prizes, the latter of which included an American flag afghan crocheted by Marge Gately.
Congratulations to Allstate agent Kenneth Pagano who was awarded the Premier Service Agency Designation for 2009. This designation is given to agents who demonstrate excellence in delivering a knowledgeable, accessible and personal experience to their customers and this year it was bestowed upon less than one-third of all Allstate agents in New York State. It was presented to Mr. Pagano for his commitment to putting the customer at the center of his agency’s work. Nice going!
