First and foremost, let me congratulate Brian and Sue Sommer of South Bay Avenue in Eastport on the birth of their daughter, Ava Marie, who was born at Stony Brook University Medical Center on the evening of Saturday, October 3. Pink is the color of choice on South Bay as we welcome Ava and Sue back home this week.
And on that happy note, we would like to send very happy birthday wishes to JoCurtis Lester Downing of Westhampton who celebrated her birthday on October 1 (and 2) and maybe even on the third! Happy Birthday, JC!
A dinner party in JC’s honor was held on South Bay Avenue in Eastport on Friday night, October 2. There is some speculation as to whether it was the chocolate fondue on top of the chocolate cake that may have started the labor contractions that brought Ava (above) into the world!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and The Firm Fitness in Speonk is offering 30-minute massages at a reduced cost as a fund-raising event. The new wine boutique in downtown Eastport, A Grape Pair, received a write-up recently in Newsday. Owners Krystle Harb and Jim Borruso have been working hard at the shop to make a name for themselves and it seems to be working. If you get a chance, stop by the store located at 509 Montauk Highway in Eastport, across from Star Video. It is a beautiful place to pick up some interesting artisanal wines.
The first round in the Eastport South Manor Music Idol competition is set for this Friday, October 9, at the junior-senior high school. Tickets are $10 each and showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. Refreshments and music-related gift items will be sold at the event! The finals will be held on December 18, so save that date as well.

The Youth Group programs at the Eastport Bible Church kick off this week with the Senior High Youth Group meeting on Thursday, October 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. The Junior High Youth Group meeting will be held this Friday, October 9, from 7 to 9 p.m.
A free carnival was held at the church on the afternoon of Sunday, October 4, to kick off the new year of programs available at the church. There were games, face painting, bead stringing, a dunk tank, refreshments, cotton candy and more. Tickets won by successfully playing the games were cashed in at the end of the day for prizes. Mr. McClintock took the deck of the dunk tank for a while and was successfully dunked several times! He is such a good sport.
In addition to the junior and senior high youth groups, the Eastport Bible Church offers programs for younger children. Call Jeremy, the youth pastor, at 801-2615 for more details.
