The upcoming week boasts a plethora of candidate forums and debates, giving residents from Wainscott to Montauk an opportunity to meet candidates for Town Board and discuss the issues at stake in this election.

The week begins tonight with a televised debate at LTV headquarters on Industrial Road in Wainscott at 6 p.m. On Thursday, October 15, candidates will participate in a League of Women Voters debate at the East Hampton Village Emergency Services Building on Cedar Street at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, October 17, the East Hampton Village Preservation Society will hold a supervisor debate at the Maidstone Club’s Tennis House on Maidstone Lane at 4 p.m.

On Sunday, October 18, the Concerned Citizens of Montauk will hold a candidate forum at the Montauk Firehouse at 1 p.m.

On Monday, October 19, the Artists and Writers of East Hampton, a new professional arts organization, will host its first forum with supervisor and Town Board candidates at 5 p.m. at Ashawagh Hall in Springs. The panel discussion will include questions on the importance of arts in the economy of East Hampton, affordable housing for artists, a town meeting space for artists and town funding for arts organizations as the economy improves.

“In addition to preserving the history and tradition of the arts in the East Hampton, artists and writers make up an industry here that generates income and goods within the East Hampton community,” said Katy Gurley, interim president of AWEH. “We are anxious to hear from these candidates and how they expect the town to help support these efforts.”

Tuesday night, October 20, Ashawagh Hall will again be filled with politicians, as the town’s Citizen Advisory Committees host a debate at 7 p.m.

East Hampton Town Democratic Committee member Betty Mazur will begin hosting phone banks at attorney and committee member Chris Kelly’s office on Main Street in East Hampton Village on October 19. The phone
banks will be held on weeknights through Election Day from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The Democrats are also holding house parties on weekends for the next three weeks, where residents invite their neighbors and friends to meet with the candidates and learn about the issues. According to Democratic Committee Chairman Bill Taylor, most of those events are by invitation only because they will take place in private homes.

The Republicans will hold a fund-raiser on Friday, October 16, at 6 p.m. at Gurney’s Inn in Montauk. Admission is $200 per person and includes an open bar, hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, pasta, fresh fruit and assorted cheese. The Republicans will also hold a countdown to the election party at Wolfie’s Tavern on Fort Pond Boulevard in Springs on Tuesday, October 27, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Admission is $25.
