East Hampton Town

Arrests

Police arrested John McHugh, 40, of East Hampton on October 4 at 1:17 a.m. at Main Street and Atlantic Avenue in Amagansett and charged him with aggravated DWI with a prior conviction in 10 years, a misdemeanor. Police said Mr. McHugh was stopped for crossing over a double yellow line and driving into the fire lane several times. After failing sobriety tests, Mr. McHugh was taken to police headquarters where a check of his license showed he had a DWI conviction out of East Hampton Town Court from 2004, police said. Bail was set at $1,000.

Thomas Murphy, 42, of East Hampton was arrested on Thursday at 9:11 p.m. at West Drive and Morris Park Lane in East Hampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said Mr. Murphy was stopped for driving without headlights or taillights and when tested, failed sobriety tests. Police said that because Mr. Murphy had a prior DWI conviction from 1987, his vehicle was seized and towed to the impound lot. Bail was set at $350.

The woman said she woke the driver, who stated his name and said “I’ll kill you,” and drove away. She said the car was a black Lincoln Navigator. Police said they searched the area but did not find the car and that a DMV check on the license plate number showed the man who identified himself was not the owner of the vehicle.

An East Hampton man, 56, reported that sometime between Thursday at 11 p.m. and Friday at 10 a.m. someone spray-painted words on the community mailboxes at the corner of Tub Oarsman Road and Three Mile Harbor Road in East Hampton.
