Tonight, Wednesday, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is holding its monthly movie night in the trailer located behind the church. This month’s selection is “Young Frankenstein,” the 1974 comedy film directed by Mel Brooks, starring Gene Wilder as the title character. Teri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle, Madeline Kahn, Kenneth Mars, and Gene Hackman also star. As usual, there will be a potluck salad (bring your own dressing) and popcorn being served. Please call 324-6024 to let them know you are attending.
Friday, Guild Hall will be present a screening of Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” at 8 p.m. The film is Kubrick’s intense, epic, Gothic horror film masterpiece. See it the way it was meant to be seen on the big screen just in time for Halloween. Admission is $10 or $5 for members.
On Saturday, at 8 p.m., at Guild Hall The Lone Sharks will take the stage. Sponsored by Crossroads Music, the Lone Sharks will be celebrating 20 years of performing. The band’s first public performance was in the summer of 1988 at the long gone Burke’s Roadhouse in North Sea.
From October 24 through November 29, the exhibit “Priscilla Heine: Woodhouse Gallery & Acquisition: Moran and Spiga Galleries” will be on display at Guild Hall. Priscilla was the 2007 winner of the 69th Guild Hall annual Artist Members, juried by Faith Hirsh. On October 25, the Jewish Center of the Hamptons, in association with Island Harvest, will need some helping hands. East Hampton farms will open their fields of harvested produce gleaned by volunteers including the Jewish Center’s youth group for distribution to those in need in the East End community through 22 local food pantries, shelters, day care and senior centers. Also this Sunday, Special Effects Hair Salon, located on the corner of Osborne Lane and Newtown Lane, is having its annual full-day breast cancer awareness event. This year the proceeds will benefit the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital. All profits of beauty treatments will be donated to the center. The salon workers are also donating their time and talents to raising money. October is almost over; make your appointment for your mammogram. While the weather is still nice (fingers crossed), the East Hampton Historical Society will lead a “James Lane Historic Architectural Walking Tour” on Saturday, October 24, from 10 to 11 a.m. This tour is led by the society’s director, Richard Barons, and leaves from the Mulford Farm Museum, located at 10 James Lane. Admission is $5 for non-members. Call 324-6850 for reservations and information.
On Tuesday, October 27, and Wednesday, October 28, at 6:30 p.m., “Count” Hugh King will lead a cemetery tour. Bring your own flashlight and discover the old burial grounds of ancient local legends. Adults required with kids under 14 and reservations are mandatory. Call 324-6850 to reserve a ghostly spot.
