I like to look ahead and see what days certain holidays fall on. This year Halloween falls on a Saturday, which is a good thing, especially if you are a teacher.

Kids get excited enough when a special occasion is coming up, but take a popular holiday like Halloween, add a gazillion grams of sugar into the mix, then add kids who can get candy for free just by knocking on someone’s door, and you have a recipe for a day at school when absolutely nothing will get done! So by Halloween falling on a Saturday, most of this crashing-and-burning will fall on the shoulders of parents.

A weekend Halloween also means that you should buy more candy because kids will be trick-or-treating ALL DAY LONG, not just after school and that evening! Just think, anytime one of my kids gets hungry (which is about every seven minutes), all they have to do is run next door or across the street and get food.

Wait! I LIKE this idea. Does that mean I don’t have to make any meals at all that day? It’s worth taking under consideration anyway. And don’t think you are off the hook, parents, because you have “older” kids now. Yes, they STILL want to trick-or-treat. They still want to trade candy afterwards. And they still want you to buy them $50 masks that they will take off 10 minutes into trick-or-treating and put in their pockets for the rest of the night because the masks are just too hot! Oh, well. Happy Almost Halloween, everyone.
