My dear readers ... you constantly amaze me! Thanks to your generosity, the East Quogue Adopt-a-Family Committee now has participants from all of our hamlet’s organizations! Volunteers and donations are still needed though to implement holiday plans for our neighbors-in-need. Kirsten Montgomery of Sandy Toes Children’s Boutique is helping Saint Rosalie’s Food Pantry make the upcoming holiday season a little brighter for the less fortunate. Have you noticed how beautiful the streets of our hamlet look? Anna Greenwald, president of the East Quogue Chamber of Commerce, would like to thank Ed and Diane Larkin and Joe and Barbara Haimson for cleaning out the beds and planting all of the colorful fall flowers. All of East Quogue thanks you, too, for a job well done!

Bob Kandell is sending very special wishes to his wife, Mary Anne, who will celebrate her birthday on Wednesday, October 28. Their daughter, Jacqui, and their adorable Westie, Duncan, will also be there to help Mary Anne blow out her candles!

The East Quogue Historical Society still has a few replicas of the Walker House and the old East Quogue schoolhouse left. The wooden Cats Meow landmarks are quite detailed and cost $20 each. For more information, call Marilyn Aldrich at 653-5517.

There are a lot of fun things for all of our ghosts and goblins to do this week in and around our little hamlet.

The annual East Quogue Halloween Parade begins at the firehouse this Saturday, October 24, at 5:30 p.m., and will be followed by the Pumpkin Carving Contest that starts at 6 p.m. at the Village Green. Goodie bags and refreshments await all trick-or-treaters.

Pumpkins will be judged for the scariest, funniest and most creative/unique. Pumpkin entries will be divided into age groups: Pre-K, Grades K to 3, Grades 4 to 6, and Adult. Just remember to bring your carved pumpkin with a candle to the Village Green between 5 and 6 p.m. (No carving will be allowed on-site, so you better finish your pumpkin at home!) Judging starts at 6 p.m. and, afterward, all pumpkins must be taken home.

The festivities are co-sponsored by the East Quogue PTA, the East Quogue Chamber of Commerce and the Southampton Town Parks and Recreation Department. This event will be held “rain or shine.” For more information, call 728-8585.

For adults and very brave kids age 7 and older, there is the spine-chilling and eerie Spooky Walk at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge this Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. both nights. Tickets are $10 per person.

And on Sunday, October 25, between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., take your littlest hobgoblins, ages 2 to 7, for a walk through the Enchanted Forest at the Refuge. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are $7 per person.

Then, next Thursday, October 29, meet on the front lawn of the Refuge for some good old-fashioned family pumpkin carving! Choose a pumpkin from the patch at the Refuge, or bring one of your own. The festivities begin at 3 p.m. This event is free for members and $5 per person for non-members. Please remember that reservations are required for all Refuge events. For more information, call 653-4771.

Do you love pasta? Then don’t miss the Spaghetti Dinner that will be hosted by Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance this Sunday, October 25. The fund-raiser begins at 2 p.m. and takes place at the ambulance headquarters located at 18C Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for children over 10 years of age. Those age 10 and younger eat for free. For tickets, call Barbara or Katherine at 728-8654. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

The final event in the Hampton’s Triple Crown, the annual Hurricane Educational Foundation’s Hurricane 5K Run, will take place this Saturday, October 24. The rain-or-shine event begins at 9 a.m. Race day check-in starts at 8 a.m. in the Westhampton Beach High School gym. The Foundation supports capital projects, creative program development, and educational awareness in the Westhampton Beach School District.
