The Eastport South Manor boys soccer team (3-9 League V, 3-11 overall) tied at Hauppauge on Monday in a scoreless game, defeated Islip 1-0 at home on October 22 and lost 3-0 at Comsewogue on October 20.

ESM’s Chris Esposito scored on a breakaway four minutes into the second half to give his team the eventual win over Islip (3-7-2 League V, 3-9-2 overall). Doug D’Angelo assisted on the goal and keeper Jason Orban made 10 saves in his second shutout of the season.

The win broke an eight-game losing streak for ESM.

The tie against Hauppauge on Monday was another step in the right direction for ESM. Head coach Felipe Argueta gave a lot of credit to his goalie Orban.

“He’s doing a great job,” he said. “He saved the game a few times today. He’s just doing an amazing job. I have to give credit to the guy. As a team we’re working hard but you have to have a good goalie and he’s doing it for us.”

Against defending state champion Comsewogue (12-0 League V, 12-1-1 overall), the game was scoreless at halftime, but three second-half goals by the undefeated Warriors did the Sharks in. Orban made 20 saves in the loss.

Argueta was encouraged in the fact that his team played much better than the first time out against the Warriors in which the Sharks lost 6-0.

“We played a great game in the first half,” he said. “The entire team just came out hard. Last time we had few kids out with injuries. This time we had everyone back pretty much and you could see a big difference from last time we played them. I can’t ask for any more from the kids. They’re finishing strong.”

ESM visited Huntington (3-8-2 League V, 5-8-2 overall) in its final game of the season on Wednesday.

Girls

The Eastport South Manor girls soccer team lost its third straight game, falling 2-0 at Bellport on October 22 and then losing 3-1 at home to West Babylon the following day. The Lady Sharks also lost 5-0 at home to Deer Park on October 15.

Emily Boge scored a first-half goal for the Lady Sharks (3-8 League IV, 3-9-1 overall) but that’s all they could muster in the loss to West Babylon (5-6 League IV, 7-8 overall). Erin Gomez had 11 saves in goal for ESM.

Bellport (6-4-1 League IV, 9-4-1 overall) scored two second-half goals for the win over ESM as the Lady Sharks only put four shots on goal throughout the game. Gomez made 15 saves in net for ESM.

ESM played its final game of the season Wednesday at Huntington.
