Republican Town Justice candidate Andy Hammer, 40, is an attorney in private practice with George Biondo in Montauk.

Mr. Hammer received a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Cornell University and his law degree in environmental law from Vermont Law School.

He has worked with the Peconic Land Trust and several conservation groups in California, and served as an assistant East Hampton town attorney from 2000 to 2003, where he primarily prosecuted zoning cases.

Mr. Hammer said that, if elected, he hopes he would bring a balanced perspective based on his work both as a prosecutor and as a defense attorney.

Mr. Hammer said that he would like to ensure the safety of the courtroom by installing a metal detector and that he would like to streamline the court’s zoning calendar on Mondays. He also pledged during the campaign to learn to speak Spanish and to reach out to the Spanish-speaking community, which uses the courtroom a great deal.

“The job needs to be done by someone who wants to do it and who cares about doing it,” he said, urging voters to learn about more about the candidates before voting.
