Dorothy M. Ryder of North Haven died on October 26 at Southampton Hospital. A homemaker, she was 82.
Born October 17, 1927, in Sag Harbor to Marion (née McNally) and Charles Early, she attended Bridgehampton School.
She enjoyed serving as a member and past president of the Chelberg & Battle American Legion Post 388 Ladies Auxiliary and selling chances and poppies to raise money for the cause. She also enjoyed taking trips with friends and family to the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Connecticut and the Atlantic City casinos in New Jersey.
According to survivors, she treasured her family and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cook. Family members said this week that she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by three daughters, Patty Bock of East Hampton, Beth O’Sullivan of Sag Harbor and Kathy Kelly of Hampton Bays; a son, Stan Ryder of North Haven; a sister, Mary Hobbs of Florida; two brothers, Lar Early and Eddie Early, both of Sag Harbor; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley J. Ryder; a sister, Noreen Maier; and seven brothers, Jake, Charlie, Dennis, Tom, Buddy, Bob and Vin Early.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 30, at noon, at St. Andrew’s Church in Sag Harbor, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
