October went by way too fast. The leaves went from green to orange in a matter of nanoseconds. Thanksgiving will be here before you can blink a tryptophan-induced sleepy eye. And then, Hanukkah. Followed by Christmas. And there’s Kwanzaa. And then the biggest wrap up of them all: New Year’s Eve.

Then it’s over! All of 2009. Sigh. All the rumors are true; the older you get, the faster time flies. But before we get too far ahead of ourselves ...

The Moreta family of Westhampton Beach has two good reasons to be proud. Twelve-year-old Henry James Moreta finished first overall for his age group (age 12 and under) during the Hurricane 5K held on Saturday, October 24. He clocked in at an impressive 19:06.09. Henry also finished first overall for his age group (age 14 and under) during last year’s Hudsy 5K in Quogue.

Great job, Henry. Your parents Trish and Henry, and sisters Laurie and Marisa, are all very proud!

The Westhampton Beach High School Drama Department will present the play “Marvin’s Room” on Friday, November 6, at 7:30 p.m., at Westhampton Beach High School on Lilac Road. Additional shows will be offered on Saturday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 8, at 2 p.m. Admission is free. For more details, call 288-3800.

Kudos to Alexa Keegan of East Moriches who plays Bessie, a girl diagnosed with leukemia, in “Marvin’s Room.” At a recent haircut, Alexa donated her tresses to Locks of Love, an organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Alexa’s parents, Diane Bianchini and Steve Keegan, are proud of their daughter’s selfless act. What a great way for Alexa to combine her passion for acting with a good deed!

The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center recently announced the election of two new board members: Douglas Lobel and Howard S. Kelberg.

Mr. Lobel is an attorney from New York City who has been a member

Mr. Kelberg is a partner with a New York City law firm and a longtime resident of East Quogue. He also brings a wealth of experience to the PAC. Mr. Kelberg has served as a board member at the American Council for the Arts, sits on the Board of Directors of the New York City Opera and is a member of the Counsel at Lincoln Center.

Welcome, gentlemen. And good luck!
