The traditions and rituals of the harvest season are upon us. Soon we will stock up our shelves, ready our kitchens and turn down our guest beds for a single day of thanks and good tidings while surrounded by family and friends.
But with the continual cleaning, cooking, running around and chasing leading up to the holiday, it is very easy to fall into a Grinch-like stupor. Don’t give way to beastly behavior! When the pressure mounts, offer up a simple thanks for all of your life’s blessings.
It’ll help when you’re sitting in all that holiday traffic.
This next item falls under the “Never judge a book by its cover” category. The Westhampton Rotary Club had an exciting meeting last week during which members of Rescue Ink, a group of self-defined “motorcycle dudes” whose mission is to persuade abusive pet owners to either be kind to their animals or give them up, stopped by for a visit. For those who are curious, Rescue Ink also has a show that airs on the National Geographic channel every Friday at 10 p.m. For more information on the Westhampton Rotary Club or to become a member, call 325-1352.
The members of Westhampton Beach Junior Girl Scout Troop 759 recently painted a colorful window mural next door to the Waldbaum’s on Sunset Avenue. For their efforts, the Scouts will be awarded the Bronze Award for Community Beautification and Betterment. Additionally, Amy Hess, artist and owner of The Ark Studio, generously volunteered many hours and her expertise to make this project come to life. Lovely painting, ladies!
The Westhampton Free Library will offer a variety of classes to keep your spirits up as the temperatures drop this winter. First up, a Tai Chi for Seniors course begins on Thursday, November 12, at noon, at the Immaculate Conception Church Parish Hall in Quiogue. Additional classes will be offered each Thursday through December 17, excluding Thanksgiving, November 26. The fee is $8 for four classes.
And if Tai Chi isn’t your bag, a Senior Aerobics class will be offered on Friday, November 13, at 9 a.m., also at the church. The class will meet every Friday through December 18, excluding November 27. The fee is $10 for five classes.
The next item is for the more arts-and-crafts savvy. Explore new materials and techniques to create your own unique jewelry collections with the Jewelry Club on Friday, November 13, at 7 p.m., at Studio Art on Sunset Avenue in Westhampton Beach. This week’s meeting will feature “Fun with Metals.” All are welcome to join. To register or obtain more details, call 288-3335.
And once you have worked up an appetite, Magic’s Pub on Main Street in Westhampton Beach will come to the rescue! On weekdays, from noon to 4 p.m., customers can enjoy the “$6.95 Burger & Beer” special. And for the dinner crowd, Magic’s “Dinner Deal” includes a free entree from the kid’s menu with each adult entree. That deal is good every Monday through Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. only. Mark the date. The Westhampton Beach High School PTO will host its fifth annual Holiday Fair on Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the Westhampton Beach High School gymnasium on Lilac Road. All proceeds will help support the many programs offered to our students. There will be a Chinese and silent auction. Admission is free. A limited number of booths are still available for vendors. Party like it is 1999. Yes, really! The Westhampton Beach High School class of 1999 will hold a 10-year reunion on Friday, November 27, at Rock Hill Country Club on Clancy Road in Manorville. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and a buffet and open bar will be available from 7:30 until 11:30 p.m. There will also be a deejay and dancing.
Tickets are $55 each or $110 per couple. Laugh the night away on Saturday, November 28, at 7:30 p.m., at the Comedy Loft inside the Westhampton Steakhouse on Mill Road in Westhampton Beach. As a part of Operation Proud Hearts, comedians Nick Cobb, John Larrochia, Vicky Kuperman and several others will take the stage and keep you laughing for a good cause. Operation Proud Hearts lends support to members of the military, their families and veterans.
