In conjunction with November being National Family Caregivers Month, Home Instead Senior Care and the National Family Caregivers Association is sponsoring a free web conference next Thursday, November 19. The 45-minute program, titled “The Best Care for Your Parents: Senior Care Solutions and Potential Pitfalls,” will begin at 7 p.m. To register, go to caregiverstress.com. Boy Scouts from Troop 483 recently cleaned up the Fournier Cemetery in Red Creek for the Hampton Bays Historical and Preservation Society. Among those in attendance were Paul Golyski, George Payne Jr., Todd Anderson Jr., Brandon Kelly, Tim Berglin, Glenn Kelly, George Payne Sr. and Todd Anderson Sr. Great job, guys!
A great big thank you is going out to Joe Smeraldi of Peconic Bay Fence for donating the beautiful white fence on the Hampton Bays Post Office property.
Diana O’Donnell and the staff at Hair, Nails & Beyond Salon would like to thank community members for their support and generosity during the Beyond Breast Cancer fund-raiser. The staff volunteered their talent and time and more than $2,000 was donated to Southampton Hospital’s Ellen Hermanson Breast Center.
Let’s hear it for the following students who have been elected officers of K-Kids, a part of our local Kiwanis Club that assists families in our community. Congratulations to the following third-graders: Kelina Tuttle, president; Lindsay Haines, vice president; Kevin McNamara, sergeant at arms; Thomas O’Connell, treasurer; and Flynn Martin, secretary.
And congrats to the following fourth-graders: Patrick Gilbert, president; Caroline Oakland, vice president; Sherly Cozar, sergeant at arms; Chloe Tarlen, treasurer; and Colette Levine, secretary.
Best wishes to Joseph Kolarik on his retirement from the Hampton Bays School District. Joe worked for the district for 32 years, most recently as director of student services. He was honored last Thursday, November 5, during a special ceremony that celebrated his last day of work and also his 55th birthday. Thank you for being there for us when we needed your guidance and a helping hand.
Helen Browne has retired from her position as an investigator for the Office of Professions for the New York State Department of Education. Enjoy your day in the sun, Helen!
The Mickler girls—Elizabeth Banne of Hampton Bays, Kathleen Clemenz of East Quogue and Sharon Sickler of Quogue—and their first cousins, the Taylor girls—Cynthia Taylor, Patricia Carvis, Rhoda McGann and Robin Gage, all of Hampton Bays—recently gathered to celebrate their monthly Full Moon Happy Hour. Since the most recent event fell on the same day as the harvest moon, the “Howlers” also collected food and donated 10 bags of groceries to St. Rosalie’s Food Pantry.
And while I’m talking about St. Rosalie’s, Hampton Bays High School Interact Club students and Rotary Club members will be “Stuffing the Bus” with groceries again this weekend on Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., at Stop & Shop. All donations will go to stock the food pantry shelves at St. Rosalie’s Church.
The Hampton Bays Civic Association’s membership meeting will be held on Monday, November 16, at 7 p.m., at the Southampton Town Senior Center on Ponquogue Avenue.
The Hampton Bays Beautification Association’s “Celebrating the Bounty of Good Ground” dinner dance is coming up on Friday, November 20, at 7 p.m., at Indian Cove Restaurant. The cost is $68 and that includes a cocktail hour, dinner and dancing. For reservations or more information, call Madeline at 728-5725.
St. Rosalie’s Church is accepting donations of clean, gently used coats, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., on weekdays at the Parish Center located behind the church. Of course, they’ll take new ones, too!
The church is also collecting instant potatoes and stuffing, rice, canned cranberry sauce, green beans, corn, sweet potatoes, gravy, fruit, apple juice, Goya beans, cake mix and canned frosting. Turkeys or turkey vouchers are also very much appreciated. These may be dropped off through Tuesday, November 24. Questions? Call Linda at 728-9461.
