Southampton Village
Southampton Village Police charged the following with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, in the past week: Henry S. Kozen, Jr., 41, of Mattituck; Gene Kagan, 35, of Los Angeles, California; Lawrence Goodelman, 53, of Wantagh; Martin Espinosa-Alvares, 43, of Southampton; Darrell J. Simmons, Jr., 20, of Bellport; William O. Perez, 20, of Riverhead; and John C. Alessi, 31, of Medford.
A project manager for a construction site on Dale Street told Southampton Village Police that on November 2 someone stole three pieces of equipment from the site sometime between October 31 and November 2. Police are investigating.
Melvin P. Benneman, 58, of Southampton was arrested by Southampton Village Police on Monday at 8:44 p.m. on North Sea Road and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Police said they stopped Mr. Benneman for a traffic violation and then found that he had crack cocaine in his car.
A woman who lives on Pelham Street in Southampton told Southampton Village Police that sometime between October 8 and November 2 someone painted her pink front door white. The woman said that one of her neighbors is trying to sell his home, but is having difficulty. The neighbor has said that he is having difficulty selling because of the woman’s pink door. Police are investigating.
The owner of a home on Toylsome Place told Southampton Village Police that his housekeeper reported to him that sometime before November 4, someone stole television and stereo equipment worth $2,500 from a pool house on the property. The homeowner last saw the equipment on October 15. Police are investigating.
A teacher at Southampton High School on Narrow Lane told Southampton Village Police that someone stole a camera from the school newspaper room sometime before October 29. Police are investigating.
A member of the Radu Physical Culture Club on Hill Street in Southampton told Village Police on Monday that another member of the club makes her feel intimidated and takes pictures of her while she works out. Police are investigating.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested by Southampton Village Police on Tuesday at 1:21 a.m. on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation and charged with resisting arrest and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, both misdemeanors, and trespassing, a violation. According to police, a resident of Tuckahoe Lane saw the boy walking around on his property. The police responded to the scene, and the boy then ran away through a heavily wooded area to the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, where he was later found trying to hide on a deck of a home there.
