Christie, my 8-month-old collie puppy, got the surprise of her life early Monday morning when Tommy the turkey and his two buddies strolled up to my bedroom sliding doors and peeked in!

And speaking of my feathered friends, it is “feed the turkey” day this Saturday, November 21, at Sandy Toes Children’s Boutique! Shop owner Kirsten Montgomery hopes that her extra-large visitor will inspire donations for St. Rosalie’s food pantry. So, drop off your nonperishables and meet “Scott the Turkey”—aka, Kirsten’s husband.

While Kirsten does not want anyone to feel obligated to shop at Sandy Toes, she is offering a 10 percent “thank you” discount to anyone who makes a donation. The “great turkey” will be at the shop from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The East Quogue United Methodist Church always reaches out to our community and, on Thanksgiving Day, warm and wonderful dinners will be offered at no cost to East Quogue residents who do not have family close by and who would otherwise spend the holiday alone. The holiday dinner starts at 2 p.m. Sorry, take-out orders will not be available. If you would like to spend a few delightful hours with the “church family,” please call Tom Mendenhall at 653-6331 or send him an e-mail at Andhow@aol.com.

The annual meeting of the East Quogue Civic Association will be held at the East Quogue United Methodist Church this Saturday, November 21, at 10 a.m. Southampton Town Board member Nancy Graboski will be the guest speaker and she will give an informative talk on “Greening East Quogue.”

Our civic association does so much for our community. In addition to helping residents with various problems, the organization also offers a $750 college scholarship to an East Quogue senior attending Westhampton Beach High School; sponsors the East Quogue Elementary School annual spelling bee and debate; co-sponsors the summer Concerts in the Park series with the East Quogue Chamber of Commerce and Southampton Town; and makes a donation to the East Quogue Adopt-a-Family program.

Please be sure to attend the meeting and renew your membership. If you wish to become a member, please visit eastquoguecivic.org and click on “Officers” for telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.

And don’t forget to save the date for the East Quogue United Methodist Church’s Holly Tea. It will be held at the church on Saturday, December 5. If you would like to sell your handmade goods, please call Sarah Mendenhall-Luhmer at 653-5113.

Also taking place on Saturday, December 5, starting at 5 p.m., will be our annual tree lighting.
