Snowbirds, mark your calendars—the 49th annual Southampton Day at Dubois Park in Jupiter, Florida is scheduled for Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 11 a.m. If you’re in the area, stop by and catch up with some old friends. Dubois Park is located at the Jupiter Inlet, south side. Bring your own food and drinks. Tables and benches will be available under a covered pavilion. For more information, call 728-5452.
Southampton Hospital has selected Linda Jones, a lead medical technologist in the laboratory department, as the hospital’s “Employee of the Quarter” for the third quarter of 2009. Ms. Jones’s selection was celebrated at a brunch in her honor, where hospital President and CEO Robert S. Chaloner presented her with a trophy and various gifts.
A resident of Southampton, Ms. Jones has been an employee of the hospital for 37 years. Her co-workers were quoted as saying, “She is a wonderful teacher who is dedicated to patient care, safety and satisfaction,” and “She has been one of the most consistent and dependable workers for 30 plus years here at Southampton Hospital.” We send a hearty congratulations to Ms. Jones!
The Southampton Historical Museum will host a wine tasting benefit at Wölffer Estate Vineyards on Friday, November 20, at 6 p.m. Louisa Hargrave, one of the pioneers of Long Island wine-making and author of “The Vineyard,” will speak and conduct wine tastings. Funds raised at the event will be used to save the 1666 Halsey House and the 1739 Sayre Barn. A selection of hors d’oeuvres will be served. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. The Southampton Artists Association will present its annual Thanksgiving Art Show beginning Sunday, November 22, and continuing through Saturday, December 5, at the Levitas Center for the Arts at the Southampton Cultural Center on Pond Lane in Southampton Village. The Southampton Artists Association is a long-standing, all-volunteer art group. Diverse and inclusive, they are dedicated to helping artists exhibit their work. Artists interested in becoming a member should stop by the show, or call Mary at 726-4515. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m., every weekday. Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine held its annual Sarah and James Bowdoin Day ceremony on October 30, to honor undergraduates who distinguished themselves by excellence in scholarship. Larissa Gaias of Southampton, a member of the class of 2011, was named a Sarah and James Bowden Scholar.
At the Library
There are several spaces left in “Create Your Own Holiday Centerpiece” with horticulturist Maggie Kirwin-Hunter at Rogers Memorial Library today, November 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. During the craft session, participants will create their own centerpiece. Please bring pruning shears. Preregistration and payment of a materials fee of $10 is required.
“Restorative Yoga: Deep Release Through Total Support” with Doreen Corwith Eckert, Himalayan Institute Yoga teacher, and Mary Sammon, Kripalu Yoga instructor, will be held on Saturday, November 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Prior yoga experience is helpful and participants should wear comfortable yoga clothes, socks and sweater and bring a yoga mat, throw blanket and eye bag (if possible). The cost is $25, and reservations and prepayment are required.
