A man and a woman from Bellport were arrested early Friday morning after police determined that they had stolen copper piping from an East Quogue house.
Southampton Town Police said they found Sherman Carter and Sylvia Wilson, both 43, walking on Lewis Road in East Quogue at around 12:50 a.m. and carrying several sections of copper piping. Police said the pair had stolen the piping after breaking into a home on Old Country Road in East Quogue by shattering the glass of a back door. The house was unoccupied and undergoing reconstruction, police said.
Both Mr. Carter and Ms. Wilson were charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, according to police. They were scheduled to be arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court Friday morning.
