Riverhead Raceway owners/promoters Barbara and Jim Cromarty released their 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series schedule last week and it is among the most diverse and comprehensive schedules ever.

The NASCAR stock cars will open Saturday, May 1, and the Enduro season will commence Sunday, May 2.

The NASCAR Modifieds will once again be the premier division of the Whelen All-American Series and compete in 19 scheduled points-paying regular season events. A new event is being introduced in 2010 on Saturday, May 15, as the class will compete in a 100-lap Hall of Fame feature event that will pay double points with time trial qualifying. This event will be in honor of the opening of the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina, in May. The two other double-point NASCAR Modified races will come on June 19 with a 50-lap main event and the annual Cromarty Cup 50, set for July 3.

The Baldwin, Evans Jarzombek 77-lap Memorial is slated for NASCAR Foundation Night on July 17. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will visit Riverhead Raceway for the 26th consecutive season on Saturday, July 31, for a “Flash” race.

In another new twist to the 2010 slate, if, in the event the final NASCAR Modified race set for September 11 is rained out, it will be rescheduled for the following Saturday, September 18.

The Late Model troops will be happy to hear their 2010 workload will increase to 12 races featuring two 50-lap double point races on May 22 as well on Miller Lite night August 28. The division has once again been added to the National Demolition Derby program September 18 and run a 50-lap, single point race.

The Figure Eights will once again be part of the Riverhead Raceway schedule in 2010 running a 12-race slate with their feature events being pared back to 15 laps. Their first extra distance race will be the Cromarty Cup 20 on Saturday, May 15, while the other two 20-lap double point races fall on July 10 and September 18.

Charger teams can count on a scheduled 17-race season next year at Riverhead Raceway with their first 30-lap, double point race of the year coming quickly on Saturday, May 8, the second week of competition. The other double point races going 30 laps are set for June 5 and July 31, as part of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour program.

The Blunderbust division, which week in and week out provides some of the most exciting finishes, will get a chance to do so on 16 occasions in 2010. The class gets right down to business with a 30-lap, double point race on opening night May 1, which is followed up with double point event on June 19 and again July 31.

The “Tailgate Brigade” Super Pro Trucks will go to the post for a dozen races in 2010, all on Saturday evenings this season. The class has no scheduled Sunday afternoon shows next year and will run a time trial double point race on Saturday, May 8.

The Legend Race Cars are back in 2010 at Riverhead for a nine-race slate and, like the Super Pro Trucks, will run that entire schedule on Saturday nights starting with opening night May 1.

Five Sunday afternoon Enduro programs will be presented at Riverhead Raceway in 2010 starting with May 1, with shows also set for May 30, June 20, August 15 and September 5. The Enduro teams will close out their season with a stand-alone Saturday night show that concludes the season on Saturday, September 25, in an Oktoberfest event. All Sunday Enduro shows will feature Enduro racing only with no other Saturday night divisions or supports races.

Each class of Enduro racing will race twice on Saturday nights as part of the NASCAR programs as follows. Grand (5/8 & 7/10), 4/6-Trucks (5/22 & 9/4), 8s (5/15 & 7&17), 6s (6/5 & 7/3) and 4s (6/26 & 8/7).

Always a staple on the annual Riverhead Raceway schedule are the wildly popular Demolition Derbies with four set for the 8-Cylinder cars starting on Saturday, June 19, and followed up by events on July 3, September 4 and the biggie, the National Demolition Derby Championship, on September 18.

The 4-Cylinder machines will do battle on May 29 and August 21, both Saturday evenings. All Demolition Derby events in 2010 will be straight-up points paying events and no longer feature a theme, while the rules for 2010 will be going back to the basics. Those all-new rules will be released in the weeks to follow.

The immensely popular School Bus events are back for the new season with the Full Size School Bus Figure Eight races set for May 29 and June 26. After that, the big buses will be destroyed in Demolition Derby action on both July 24 and again August 21.

The Mini School Buses spring into action with a Figure Eight race June 19, which is followed by a Demolition Derby August 7.

Two huge fireworks shows are set for the annual Independence Day Spectacular on July 3 as well as Saturday the 21 for the I Love America night program.
