A man faces a felony criminal charge after Southampton Town Police said he presented a forged identification card early Monday morning when he was arrested for obstructing traffic in the Riverside traffic circle.
Town Police said an officer in the middle of an unrelated traffic stop observed Jaime Pastor-Ortiz, 23, who refused to provide his home address to police, standing in the middle of the road and obstructing traffic at 1:54 a.m. on November 23. Police said vehicles were forced to swerve around Mr. Pastor-Ortiz, adding that he ignored requests to get out of the road.
Police said they originally arrested Mr. Pastor-Ortiz for disorderly conduct, a violation. When asked for identification, police said he handed over a fake resident alien card. Police said they also found a forged Social Security card in his wallet.
Mr. Pastor-Ortiz was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged document, a felony, according to police.
He was arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court on Monday morning and remanded to the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside without bail.
Two Charged with Possession
Felony drug charges were filed against two Southampton men after police said they found crack cocaine in their car on Saturday night.
Southampton Town Police said they stopped Joe Coffey Jr., 47, at 10:44 p.m. for failing to signal while he was making a left turn from Montauk Highway onto West Tiana Road in Hampton Bays. Mr. Coffey, along with his passenger, Frank Taylor, 49, attempted to exit the 2000 Buick Le Sabre, and police ordered them to remain inside, police said. While the front door was open, police said they saw a plastic bag containing more than three grams of crack cocaine on the floor near the driver’s feet.
Mr. Coffey and Mr. Taylor were charged with one count each of third-degree and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, according to police.
They were arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court Sunday morning, and both were remanded to the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside due to previous felony charges, police said. No additional information was available.
Cops: Woman Violated Order
An Eastport woman was arrested early Monday morning after police said she violated an order of protection when she attacked a Westhampton Beach woman last week.
Southampton Town Police arrested Romana Grant-Gabrieli, 52, at her East Pond Lane home at 3:56 a.m. on Monday and charged her with second-degree criminal contempt of court, a misdemeanor.
Ms. Grant-Gabrieli violated an order of protection when she went to the victim’s Dune Road house on November 16, punched her in the head, pulled her hair and scratched her face, according to a police report of the incident. Police said Ms. Grant-Gabrieli also took the victim’s cell phone away to prevent her from calling the police.
The victim was transported by the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead and treated for contusions and abrasions to her head and face.
Police arrested Ms. Grant-Gabrieli on a warrant issued by Southampton Town Justice Court on Sunday. She was arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court on Monday morning and released to return to court at a later date.
Police said they could not divulge the circumstances under which the order of protection was issued because it was a domestic situation.
