Hello to all of my friends in Flanders and beyond. I am happy to see so many homes being decorated for the holidays, but I am still having a hard time with the fact that Thanksgiving has come and gone and the rest of the big holidays are just around the corner.
This is certainly my favorite time of year, though this year it all seems so much different. Maybe it is the lack of Christmas decorating since we are starting our collections from scratch again, or maybe it is just the fact that my husband and I are still unable to sit down for a few minutes to really enjoy what is going on around us. We are just so busy trying to make this new house a home for the kids that we don’t get to the other stuff in life ... like decorating for the holidays. Maybe this weekend we will dedicate ourselves to doing just that ...
This is the time of year for all of the holiday parties and the Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association Holiday Party will be at the David W. Crohan Community Center in Flanders on Monday, December 14, and will be a “covered dish” affair. All guests are asked to bring a favorite dish to share with the community.
Tickets can be purchased at the door and cost $5 per adult and $3 for children under 12. Sounds like a great time. So if you plan on attending, get your tickets soon. For more information and tickets, call Brad at 678-7703.
Christmas card pictures are such a big part of the holidays these days and “Pet Santa,” which is coming to Talmage Farm Agway in Riverhead on Saturday, December 5, is something that you will not want to miss. What a great opportunity for that holiday photo!
From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., your pet can sit for a free photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus. And all pets are welcome. That includes horses, goats, chickens, dogs, cats and even guinea pigs! There will be free treats and giveaways, as well as special sales and offers during the day. And you can even have your “human pets” photographed with the Clauses as well. Stop down and visit with Santa and enjoy the season.
The Westhampton Presbyterian Church is hosting its annual Christmas Bazaar and Tea and this year it will take place at the church on Saturday, December 5, from 1:30 until 4 p.m. Decorated wreaths, gift items, jewelry and baked goods will all be available for purchase. You can enjoy tea and finger sandwiches with your friends and family and your children may shop for the holidays and participate in fun activities. Sounds like another great day.
While you are shopping around, why not stop at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays? The church is holding a Home and Hearth Christmas Fair on Saturday, December 5, as well. That event runs from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. It will feature St. Mary’s famous cookie walk, refreshments, homemade baked goods and soups, as well as specialty gifts, decorations, pictures with Santa, raffles and much more. If you would like more information, please call the parish office at 728-0776.
I recently learned of an interesting event that I would like to share with you. The 13th annual Worldwide Candle Lighting will be held on Sunday, December 13, around the globe to honor and remember all children who have died too young. Candles will be lit at 7 p.m. around the world and the idea is to create a 24-hour “wave of light.” Participants are also invited to post a message in the “Remembrance Book” that will be available during the event by logging on to compassionatefriends.org.
Locally, the Twin Forks Chapter of the Compassionate Friends will hold a candle ceremony at the United Methodist Church on Montauk Highway in East Quogue on Sunday, December 13, at 7 p.m.. All are welcome. If you plan on attending, just give Mary Casey a call at 298-5043.
That is all for this week, folks. Talk to you soon.
