The Southampton Town Republican Committee is gearing up for a special election to fill a soon-to-be vacant Town Board seat.
Republicans will screen candidates at Villa Tuscano on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays on Thursday, December 3, at 7 p.m.
The seat in question will be vacated by Councilwoman Anna Throne-Holst on January 1, the beginning of her two-year term as the next town supervisor. Under town law, a special election must be held within 60 to 90 days after a vacancy is declared.
Republican Committee Chairman Ernest Wruck said at least six people have expressed interest in running, but he declined to identify any potential Republican candidates. The Republican Committee will likely nominate a candidate at the party’s convention in January, Mr. Wruck said.
“We’re looking for someone who, I think, can unite the party and be a strong candidate,” Mr. Wruck said. “I’m looking for someone who stands for Republican principles of smaller government, less regulation and less taxes.”
Anyone wishing to screen as a Republican candidate for the upcoming special election should submit a resume to P.O. Box 822, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978.
