Bridgehampton School
Twenty students who participated in a sport and earned academic honors or high honors were named scholar athletes for the first quarter of the school year. Congratulations to Claudio Figueroa, Hayley Lund, Jada Pinckney, Jennah Hochstedler, Leslie Fridie, Bryzeida Perez, Tanethea Clark, Genevieve Kotz, Dominique Clark, Vanessa Rojano, Tanasha Clark, India Hemby, Micah Hemby, Anajae Lamb, Nicholas Stevens, Vanesa Cruz, Christian Figueroa, Oscar Reyes, Angelica Uribe and Anika Hochstedler.
On November 13, Anthony Marmo from Planned Parenthood spoke to Steve Meyers’s health classes about the consequences of making poor choices and the services offered by his organization.
On November 24, the students, faculty and staff enjoyed a Thanksgiving feast at the Bridgehampton Community Center. The event was organized by five community churches in Bridgehampton, the PTO, and some of the staff at Bridgehampton School. Entertainment was provided by elementary students who sang festive songs. Joyce Manigo was integral in organizing this event.
Sag Harbor Elementary School
T
he Winter Concert will take place on Thursday, December 10, at 7 p.m. Students in the large chorus, after-school chorus, band, guitar ensemble, and orchestra will sing and play winter and holiday favorites.
The Sag Harbor Parenting Center is sponsoring a holiday bus trip to New York City on Saturday, December 12. The bus departs Sag Harbor at 8 a.m. and leaves the city at 5 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are $20 each. Call Michelle Grant at 725-5301 for more information.
The elementary school Giving Tree starts on Monday, December 7. The Giving Tree is really a Mitten Line. On the bulletin board in the hallway approaching the gymnasium is a clothesline that has colorful construction paper mittens hanging from it. On each mitten is written information about gift requests for local families in need, such as, “hat and gloves, 9-year-old boy” or “art supplies, 6-year-old girl.” Students and their families take a mitten from the line, purchase the item requested and bring it back to the school, unwrapped, with the mitten attached to it. Gifts are due at the school by Friday, December 18.
The elementary school PTA is hosting its annual Gingerbread Workshop on Friday, December 11, at 7 p.m., in the gymnasium. Families are invited to decorate preordered gingerbread houses and gingerbread people.
H
ayground School
The first of two open houses will be held on Thursday, December 10, at 7 p.m. for prospective students and their parents. The evening will include tours, presentations and an overview of Hayground’s program. For more information, call Cheryl Buck at 537-7068, ext. 100. The second open house will take place on Saturday, January 16, at 10 a.m.
Students and their families, teachers, alums, and friends gathered in Jeff’s Kitchen for a traditional Thanksgiving feast last week.
Ross School
F
or her senior project, Jessica Federico will host an awareness benefit to raise money for the Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Association (RSDSA). The event will be held on Thursday, December 3, at Ross from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy is a chronic neurological syndrome that may develop at the site of a minor or major trauma injury, and causes severe burning pain, pathological changes in bone and skin, excessive sweating, tissue swelling, and extreme sensitivity to touch.
“I currently suffer from this disease and I am working to raise money to find a cure,” said Jessica.
The benefit will include dinner and dessert, DJ Dave Pharaoh, a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction and a Chinese auction, as well as a presentation to raise awareness. Guests could be eligible to win a Windsurfer, a Donna Karan original dress, a signed print by local artist Vito DeVito, a half-day fishing charter aboard the Surfmaster and gift certificates to a variety of East End stores and restaurants.
Admission is $20 for adults; $10 for faculty and students; and $5 for children.

hild Development Center of the Hamptons
A
fter a vigorous fund-raising effort over the last four months that raised close to $80,000, CDCH will install phase 1 of a new playground on Saturday, December 5. The installation will be a community effort, with volunteers arriving at CDCH’s Wainscott campus at 9 a.m. Families and friends will be on hand to play on the finished playground by 4 p.m. that afternoon.
CDCH welcomes all members of the community to lend a hand that day.
The Playground Project’s co-chairs are Lisa Matz and Jessica Tuthill. Major donors ($1,000 or more) were Ted Conklin, the Hardy family, the Henry L. O’Brien Foundation, John Hummel Custom Builders and Associates, the Mannino family, Karen & Harvey Silverman, the Steele Foundation, the Stewart Lane & Bonnie Comley Foundation, and the Tuthill family.
