Grammy Award nominated songwriter, record producer, and slide guitarist Derek Trucks and his band will return to the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, December 12, for an 8 p.m. show.
Setting a new personal record with its sixth studio album, “Already Free,” the Derek Trucks Band debuted at number 19 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart. On the strength of two standout singles, “Down in the Flood” and “Get What You Deserve,” the album reached number two at AAA and number 10 on Rock Radio formats.
In “Already Free,” band expands on its blues roots and Southern rock style to incorporate the larger sounds of rock, soul, jazz, Latin, and Indian music. Produced by Mr. Trucks, the album features both original songs and reinvigorated old ones, crossing musical boundaries and genres.
A critically acclaimed slide guitarist, Mr. Trucks was raised in a home filled with music. The guitar prodigy picked up the instrument at age 9, and was jamming with his own group by age 11. By the time he was 15, he had formed the core of the Derek Trucks Band. He became a full time member of the Allman Brothers Band in 1999 (his uncle Butch Trucks is a founding member).
Mr. Trucks has played with some of the greatest musicians of all time, including Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson and Buddy Guy, among others. Now 30, he is the youngest musician to be included in Rolling Stone’s list of the Top Hundred Guitarists of All Time. Rolling Stone rated the band’s new album as its “most accessible blues-rock set to date,” while the Boston Globe claimed, “You probably won’t hear a better rock/R&B record this year.”
