Peconic Bay Medical Center’s third annual Peconic Bay Polar Bear Plunge will be held on Saturday, December 5, starting at 11 a.m., at Iron Pier Beach off Pier Avenue in Riverhead.
Participants are invited to dive into the Long Island Sound after raising money for the Riverhead hospital’s “Building Tomorrow’s Medical Center Today” campaign. The campaign includes a major modernization of the hospital’s new emergency center, the Kanas Center for Advanced Surgery, and an 18-bed acute rehabilitation center that is now under construction.
A post-plunge bash will be held from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Martha Clara Vineyards on Sound Avenue in Riverhead.
On the day of the plunge, all participants should be on the beach at 10 a.m. for registration and to submit donor forms, sponsorship money and, for those under 18 years of age, waiver forms. Those with the highest sponsorship levels will be eligible to win one of three prizes: a tandem freefall skydive with Skydive Long Island, an Old Town kayak or a 32-inch flat-screen television.
Waiver and sponsorship forms are available at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead or online at firstgiving.com/pbmcplunge. For additional information, call 548-6000.
