There appears to be only one contested race in the fire commissioner elections slated for this Tuesday, December 8.

In Westhampton Beach, incumbent Victor Levy, 65, will face challenger Robert Schunk, 71. The races in Eastport and East Quogue are both uncontested. There are no elections in Quogue since the Village Board acts as commissioners of the Quogue Fire Department.

Representatives from the Flanders and Hampton Bays fire departments did not return calls seeking information about their respective races and candidates.

In Hampton Bays, voters will be asked to fill two vacant fire commissioner seats on the district’s five-member board. One candidate will be elected to a five-year term and the other will fill a vacant slot with one year left on its term.

In Flanders, voters will be asked to fill one open commissioner seat and the term will run for five years.

Mr. Levy was appointed to the Westhampton Beach Board of Fire Commissioners in 2002 and was reelected in 2004. Though he’s never been a firefighter, Mr. Levy has served on municipal boards since 1979.

His time spent on the Westhampton Beach Village Board, Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals is what makes him qualified to serve as commissioner again, Mr. Levy said. “I believe I have something to bring with my municipal experience,” he said.

Mr. Levy has lived in Westhampton Beach for 30 years and has operated Surfside 3 Marina on Library Avenue for more than 40 years. Mr. Levy and his wife, Joanna Ferraro-Levy, raised three now-adult children, Ian, Justin and Matthew, in Westhampton Beach.

Lifelong Westhampton Beach resident Robert Schunk is also running for the single seat on the fire commissioner board. Mr. Schunk said he’s spent nearly 40 years as a firefighter in Westhampton Beach. He has also owned his own off-road fire truck manufacturing shop.

Though a medical condition forced him to retire, Mr. Schunk said he still wants to serve the community. “There’s an awful lot of knowledge I’ve gained over time,” he said.

Mr. Schunk lives in Westhampton Beach with his wife, Cynthia. He has two adult sons who are members of the Westhampton Beach Fire Department. Darryl Schunk is an ex-chief of the department and Allen Schunk is currently a captain.

The Westhampton Beach Fire District serves Westhampton Beach, Westhampton and Quiogue and its commissioners serve five-year terms. Voting will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, at the firehouse on Sunset Avenue in Westhampton Beach.

In Eastport, incumbent Thomas Collins is running unopposed for the one open seat on that district’s fire commissioners board. The 58-year-old Eastport resident has been a firefighter for 40 years and has served as a commissioner since 1985. He also served as chief from 1979 until 1981.

“I feel that the whole board is doing an excellent job and I want to continue,” he said.

Mr. Collins is a retired mechanic for the Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services.

Voting will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Eastport Firehouse on Union Avenue.

In East Quogue, Edmund Densieski Jr. is running unopposed for his second five-year term on that district’s fire commissioner board, which also has five members. Mr. Densieski, 58, has lived in East Quogue his whole life and has volunteered at the fire department for more than 30 years.

“I’d like to continue at least another five years,” he said. “I feel I can do good for the fire district.”

Mr. Densieski, a farmer, lives in East Quogue with his wife, Patricia, and their children, Jenine, Joseph and Christopher.

Residents can vote from 5:30 until 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the East Quogue Firehouse on Montauk Highway.

In Hampton Bays, voters will elect two fire commissioners to its five-member board on December 8. Voting will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hampton Bays Firehouse on Montauk Highway.

And voting will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Flanders Firehouse on Firehouse Lane.
