While we are all looking forward to the fun of the upcoming holidays, the Bridgehampton Community Food Pantry, which is run by our churches, has reported the sad need to solicit donations. The number of people coming to the weekly food pantry has greatly increased, and funds are running short.
Canned goods or dry, nonperishable food can be dropped off at the St. Ann’s Episcopal Church Parish House on Main Street between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on weekdays. Checks payable to the Bridgehampton Community Food Pantry can be sent c/o St. Ann’s Church, P.O. Box 961, Bridgehampton 11932. Be generous.
Looking ahead a bit, the Bridgehampton United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas Carol Sing-Along on Saturday, December 19, at 6:30 p.m. Solos will be offered by Christine Cadarette, who will play organ and sing, and the Faro a Las Naciones guitar band. The church will accept offerings of canned goods, and cash will be accepted, with the proceeds being turned over to benefit East End food pantries—so here’s your chance to have some fun and do some good.
If you are looking for a local holiday gift, check out the Bridgehampton Historical Society, which is offering a special Holiday Gift Shop at the Corwith House museum. Opening on Monday, December 14, the gift shop will offer locally handmade ornaments, honey, candles and Zincuta Ointment, which is an old-time “remedy for all afflictions of the skin.”
In addition to the regular stock of local history books and BHHS collectibles, a limited number of J. McLaughlin BHHS polo shirts are still available. The seasonal gift items will be on offer through Wednesday, December 23.
Museum gift shop hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 537-1088.
The Bridgehampton School Board will hold an open community meeting to discuss the search for a replacement for its superintendent, Dr. Dianne Youngblood, who will retire at the end of the year. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, in the middle school, and will be led by representatives of the search term that is assisting the district in the process. Those who can’t attend have been invited to fill out a survey. More information can be obtained by calling the school at 537-0271 or visiting its website at bridgehampton.k12.ny.us .
In other Bridgehampton School news, the annual holiday concert for children in grades three through 12 will be held Thursday, December 10, at 7 p.m. in the school gym. The prekindergarten through second grades performed a separate concert on Wednesday night.
The Hayground School at 151 Mitchell Lane will host the first of two open houses on Thursday, December 10, at 7 p.m. for prospective parents and students. The evening will include tours, presentations and an overview of the Hayground’s program, followed by a question-and-answer session with teachers and students. Volunteers at the Bridgehampton Fire Department will hold a blood drive from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, December 18, at the firehouse. If you can donate, please do so.
New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. will again team up with the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program to collect new, unwrapped toys at his office at 2302 Main Street in Bridgehampton. The collection box will be there from now through Friday, December 18. For more information, call his office at 537-2583.
The Hampton Library will present an author talk with Eve Yohalem on Saturday, December 12, at 3 p.m. for kids 8 and older. Ms. Yohalem will discuss her new book, “Escape Under Forever Sky.”
Teens have been invited to come to the library on Saturday, December 12, at 1 p.m. to transform an old light bulb into a Christmas ornament with the help of some paint and ribbon.
And on Friday, December 18, at 3:30 p.m., the library will present Astrology for Kids, for children 8 and older, with local astrologer Kate Plumb, who will tell stories and about the art. That same day, Lego Mania will be offered for kids 8 and older at 3:30 p.m.
On Saturday, December 19, at 11:30 a.m., there will be a Gingerbread House craft, for children 5 and up, and Movie and Munchies, for teens, will screen “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” at 1 p.m.

The Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons will sponsor an illustrated talk by garden writer, designer and lecturer Tracy DiSabato-Aust on Sunday, December 13, at 2 p.m. at the Community House. The topic is based on her newest book, “50 High-Impact, Low-Care Garden Plants: Tough but Beautiful Plants That Anyone Can Grow.” After the talk, the Alliance will hold its annual holiday party.
