Arrests
Police arrested Shaun Assael, 47, of East Hampton on November 29 at 12:40 a.m. and charged him with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said they observed Mr. Assael’s vehicle cross over the solid yellow line several times before they stopped him. Police said he failed sobriety tests and was released on his own recognizance after being held overnight.
Claudia Solares, 25, of East Hampton was arrested on Friday at 1:25 a.m. at Three Mile Harbor Road and Springy Banks Road in East Hampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Police said they stopped Ms. Solares because they saw her car swerving into the opposite lane of traffic and into the shoulder on Three Mile Harbor Road. During questioning, police said she was slurring her words and had difficulty finding items in her car that were in plain view. Police said when she stepped out of the car, she was not wearing shoes and had difficulty putting on her boots while sitting in the back of her car. Ms. Solares failed sobriety tests, police said, and bail was set at $300.
Miguel Baculima-Barros, 37, of East Hampton was arrested on Saturday at 6:40 p.m. at Hog Creek Road and Wildflower Road in Springs and charged with DWI and aggravated DWI, both misdemeanors. Police said they responded to a report of car accident at the intersection and found that Mr. Baculima-Barros had hit a telephone pole. Police said he failed sobriety tests and bail was set at $600.
Police arrested Jose Calderon, 30, of Riverhead on November 30 at 2:38 p.m. at Floyd Street and Spinner Lane in East Hampton and charged him with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, a misdemeanor. Police said they stopped Mr. Calderon for driving the wrong way on Floyd Street and a check of his license showed it had been revoked for a previous aggravated DWI conviction and four suspensions. Bail was set at $250.
Police arrested James Rivera, 32, of Wainscott on December 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Woodbine Drive and Glade Road in Springs and charged him with unauthorized use of a vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor. Police said Mr. Rivera was driving a gray 2002 Jeep Cherokee without the owner’s permission. They said they began the investigation after receiving a complaint from the owner, a woman who said she wanted to press charges. Bail was set at $200.
Christine Moran, 38, of East Hampton was arrested on Sunday at 10:21 a.m. at Underwood Drive and Springs-Fireplace Road in Springs and charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a misdemeanor. Police said they received a call from an East Hampton man who said Ms. Moran had shown up at his residence and was banging on the glass sliding door, causing damage to the base track and door lock. Police said when they arrived at the scene Ms. Moran had left and they apprehended her a short time later at One Stop Market. Ms. Moran was released on her own recognizance.
Police said they arrested Nelson Rosa, 46, of the Bronx on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on a bench warrant out of the Bronx Criminal Courthouse for turnstile jumping. Bail was set at $7,000.
Incidents
Two East Hampton High School students reported that on November 20 their personal belongings were stolen out of the school locker room. One student reported that a cell phone, worth $150, was stolen from his backpack that was outside his gym locker, and the other student reported that a silver necklace, worth $300, a cell phone, worth $100, a hair dryer, worth $30, and other assorted items worth $25, were stolen from outside her gym locker.
An East Hampton man, 63, reported on December 1 that while on vacation someone stole his mailbox, worth $100. The man told police that whoever stole the mailbox also tried to fill in the mailbox post hole in the ground.
An East Hampton woman, 26, reported on December 2 that someone had stolen a Victoria’s Secret credit card from her mailbox and was using it to make illegal purchases. The woman told police that she applied for and was approved for a credit card from the store in May and was told it would be sent to her in the mail. She said she never received the card but recently received a bill for $119.80. The woman told police that she contacted Victoria’s Secret and was told that the card had been mailed to her address in June. Police said the manager at the Victoria’s Secret in Bridgehampton faxed the sales receipt to police headquarters, and the Victoria’s Secret fraud department is trying to locate the electronic signature used in the purchase.
An East Hampton man, 28, reported on December 2 that between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. someone smashed the passenger side, front and rear windows of his 2004 Cadillac Escalade and let the air out of the tires. Police said the damage was estimated at $968.
An East Hampton woman, 61, reported on Thursday that someone used her Hudson City Debit Mastercard to make 14 purchases, worth $1,164.30, at USPS.com between November 11 and November 12. The woman told police that she had her card at all times. She said she contacted Hudson City bank to cancel the card and was told to contact the major credit bureaus. The woman also told police that she recently found a postal inspector’s business card in her doorway, and when she contacted him he told her the United States Postal Service was investigating a suspicious package with her name and return address on it. The woman told police she has not shipped any packages recently.
