A Montauk Highway woman reported to Southampton Town Police on Friday that someone used her identity to make a $992 purchase from a heating and air conditioning company in Levittown sometime between December 4 and December 8. The victim reported that the company contacted her saying that she owed the money for a delivery to a Levittown address, although she never had an account with the company and did not know anyone at that address. Police are investigating the incident.
Flanders
A Flanders Road man called Southampton Town Police on December 9 to report that someone used his debit card to buy a $1,126 laptop and a $290 cell phone on December 8. The victim told police that he cancelled the card, reported the fraudulent charges to his bank and contacted the vendors seeking a refund. Police said they are investigating the theft.
North Haven
Patrick G. Bentivegna, 37, of Bay Shore was stopped by Southampton Town Police on Barclay Drive at 12:24 p.m. on November 29 and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. Police said Mr. Bentivegna was found to have a suspended license after he drove off the road and into a nearby lake. No injuries were reported.
Bridgehampton
Michael J. Helstowski, 46, of Bridgehampton was stopped by Southampton Town Police on Montauk Highway at 9:02 a.m. on November 30 and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. Police said Mr. Helstowski was originally stopped for running a red light.
Hampton Bays
Ryan T. O’Neil, 29, of Mastic was arrested by Southampton Town Police on Old Riverhead Road at 6:27 p.m. last Thursday, December 10, and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, as well as driving without a seat belt and speeding, both violations. Police said Mr. O’Neil was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for his arraignment for those charges, which were originally leveled on May 5.
Ryan Crossland, 26, of Austin, Texas, was arrested by Southampton Town Police at the corner of Montauk Highway and Ponquogue Avenue at 8:03 p.m. last Thursday, December 10, and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor. Police said Mr. Crossland was arrested after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident and found to have a suspended license. No injuries were reported.
A Montauk Highway man reported to Southampton Town Police on December 7 that someone stole a $1,400 Yamaha dirt bike from his yard sometime between 7:15 and 7:30 a.m. that day. The victim reported that he heard his dogs barking outside and found the dirt bike missing when he went to investigate. The dirt bike left tracks leading out of the yard and into the woods at the rear of the property, according to authorities. Police said they are investigating the theft.
Westhampton
Fredis Flores, 36, of Eastport was stopped by Southampton Town Police on Montauk Highway at 10:28 a.m. on November 29 and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and driving while talking on a cell phone without a hands-free device, a violation. Police said Mr. Flores was originally stopped for talking on his cell phone.
