Seventh grade Spanish students learned about Elvis Crespo
Seventh grade Spanish students learned about Elvis Crespo "The King of Meringue" this past week. While listening to his meringue hit "Tu sonrisa" or "Your smile" students held up fake smiles when they recognized this new vocabulary.

East Hampton Middle School

Two eighth grade students are about to embark on an exciting and educational trip to help needy children and families. Students Juan Patino and Brian Hurtado will be traveling to Costa Rica with their youth group from the Vida Abundante congregation. While they are away, they will be taking part in several activities to help children in need. They will be visiting the Indigenous Reserve Guaymi and helping the children there build a school and a playground for their use.

The Student Association bake sale raised more than $130 for aid and relief in Haiti. More than 20 students brought in baked goods for the cause.

Another event organized by the Student Association was Crazy Hair Day, a fund-raiser for a local family in the district currently battling illness, which pulled in more than $475.

ainscott School

School nurse Yvonne Loinig arranged for Hampton Pediatric Dental to visit the school and give the students valuable information on how to take care of their teeth.

Report cards for the second quarter went home to parents on Wednesday, February 3.

ast Hampton High School

Seniors Emma Shilowich and Casey Nicoletti just completed a book drive, through the Heart of America Foundation, collecting 2,700 books for students in grades K-4. The drive was conducted at John Marshall, East Hampton Middle School, Springs School and Montauk School over one month and the books were delivered to a very appreciative Phillips Avenue School in Riverhead.

Parent-teacher conferences will be held this Tuesday and Wednesday, February 9 and 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. National Honor Society students will be there to help parents find their way to various classrooms.

This week is Random Acts of Kindness week at the high school. Each day is designated to a different friendly act that the students can perform with their peers and faculty.

The senior class is selling Valentine’s Day gifts outside the cafeteria during lunch periods.

prings School

The Special Olympics fund-raising committee is baking its way to their $1000 goal. The Natural Helpers, under the guidance of social worker Maritza Santos and teacher Leah Amacucci and Marge Conlon’s Life Skills class are joining forces to bake goods for a projected February 25 and 26 bake sale. The committee is looking for eggs, oil, icing, baked goods mixes, and other supplies to start their baking marathon.

The Student Council is hosting three Spirit Days this week as a fund-raiser for future activities. Wednesday is Cap Day, Thursday is Pajama Day and Friday is Sports Jersey Day. Students will be paying a dollar a day to participate in the wearing of these items.

oss Lower School

Ross Lower School students made exciting global connections on February 3. Students in first through fourth grades spoke to children in Zimbabwe on Skype. The kids are part of a larger organization known as ZimKids. Over the years, Ross School has worked closely with ZimKids

In track, Charles Lehner ran 9:84 in the 55-meter hurdles and Viktor Seibert ran 5:37 in the 1600-meter race—almost exactly a mile. They qualified for the Suffolk County Small Schools Championship, which was held on February 4 at Suffolk County Community College West.

tella Maris Regional School

Thursday was Sports Day, and in the annual seventh grade vs. teachers volleyball game, the students chalked up a win. But the teachers rallied in their game against the eighth-graders, and won that competition.

inter Recess

Most area schools will be closed next week, February 15 through 19 for winter recess. Schools will reopen on Monday, February 22. Check with your local school for detailed information.
