A Classic Visitor Wins Sag Harbor Cup

The classic 65-foot sailing yachtThe Blue Peter stopped by Sag Harbor last week in route to its summer charter season in the northeast. It left having won the 36thannual Sag Harbor Cup regatta at the Breakwater Yacht Club, finishing ahead of 21 other boats in the competition.

Saturday’s race was held in in stiff winds in Noyac Bay with The Blue Peter and her captain, Mathew Barker, finishing first overall with a corrected time of 3 hours, 19 minutes and 52 seconds. The visiting boat, which was built in 1930 in Burnham-on-Crouch in England and has a hull still made from its original teak, fended off a slew of local competition, including David Whelan whose Angel Under the Moon, which he designed and built, finished second overall in 3:23:17. Donald Fillippelli captained his J/109 Caminos to a third place finish with a corrected time of 3:26:29.
