On Saturday, June 10, as part of its “Through the Lens” series, LTV Studios in East Hampton will present “An Educational Afternoon of Indigenous Fashion & Film,” which will be hosted by award-winning Native American fashion designer Kayla Lookinghorse and filmmaker Ginew Benton.
This unique event will celebrate Indigenous people through several offerings, including a Native American art show and vendor market beginning at noon and a reception and a mocktail bar and panel discussion and speakers at 2 p.m., a Native American short film festival at 3 p.m., a fashion show at 5 p.m. featuring designs by Lookinghorse, who is of Hunkpapa/Itazipco Lakota heritage, and a 5:30 p.m., the world premiere screening of “The Dim,” a film by Benton, a member of the Ojibway tribe.
As a designer, Kayla Lookinghorse’s culture is artfully woven into her designs. Her contemporary brand honors her heritage with an aesthetic specific to her tiospaye’ (family). Her signature symbol, three horizontal lines, pays homage to the past, present and future. Lookinghorse is a mother, designer, artist and tribal citizen and has forged her own path by creating and recreating traditional garments with a contemporary edge.
No tickets are necessary for this event. For more information, visit ltveh.org. LTV is at 75 Industrial Road, Wainscott.
