The Arts Center at Duck Creek in Springs will hold its “2024 Exquisite Corpse Drawathon Benefit” on Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25, from 2 to 6 p.m. with an exhibit preview on Friday, August 23, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. (raindate August 25). The event will honor former East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc whose support was vital in making Duck Creek a public arts center.
The year 2024 is the 100th anniversary of surrealism, and in honor of the occasion, Duck Creek has invited artists from near and far to create Exquisite Corpse drawings for its benefit exhibition and sale. The Exquisite Corpse is a game popularized by surrealists like Max Ernst and Andre Breton in the 1930s, in which each artist executes one section of a drawing without seeing their fellow collaborator’s contributions.
For this fundraiser, over 100 artists have been collaborating on drawings which will be on view and for sale, including Eric Fischl, April Gornik, Melinda Hackett, Darius Yektai, Almond Zigmund, Stephanie Brody Lederman, Peter Spacek and Tara Geer. In addition, Exquisite Corpse Drawathon Sessions will be held a week prior to the fundraiser, on Friday, August 16, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. or 6 to 7:30 p.m. This free artist salon party is an opportunity to meet and create with fellow artists in a playful and creative atmosphere. Interested artists should visit the website to sign up for a drawing session.
Tickets to the benefit are $150 at duckcreekarts.org/2024-events and include early access to the collaborative drawings, which are $250 each. The evening also includes light fare, live music and libations. Funds from ticket and artwork sales support Duck Creek’s free programming in the coming year.
The Arts Center at Duck Creek is at 127 Squaw Road in the East Hampton hamlet of Springs.
