To end the 2008 summer season with a bang, YARD will host performances by five different bands at Long Beach in Sag Harbor on Monday, August 25 (rain date is Wednesday, August 27) as part of the Beach Night Show. Bands featured at this event will be Too Busy Being Bored (TBBB), Patent Pending, All County Fair, Eyes To Die For and Smarter Than Yourself. All of these bands are based on Long Island. Too Busy Being Bored, who originally helped organize the annual Beach Night Show, is a six member Sag Harbor indie alternative rock band that started in November of 2005, and has since grown into a widely popular band on the East End. Patent Pending is a punk rock band made up of three members. They have recently been signed to a record label and have performed all over the world including on Van’s Warped Tour, Fuse TV’s Daily Download and Bamboozle. They have opened for Taking Back Sunday and Brand New. Also of the alternative rock genre is All County Fair, a band from Islip that has been featured in the online magazine Portrait and became part of the Beach Night Show after meeting the members of Too Busy Being Bored at a Battle of the Bands competition.  Soon to take part in the Loaded Unsigned Band Festival, Eyes To Die For is a hardcore rock band. The Southampton band, Smarter Than Yourself, plays a mixture of punk rock and alternative rock.

The show will take place on a mobile stage stationed at Long Beach provided by the Southampton Town Parks and Recreation Department. With this program, YARD has greatly widened its demographic from its popular “Safe Summer Beach Program” that takes place at Long Beach every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the summer months for teenagers. “This is more of a family affair. We’re trying to reach out to kids and their parents and siblings so that they will be able to enjoy a family-style concert,” said Debbie Skinner, Director of YARD programs.

Presenting this concert for it’s third year in a row, YARD will also have a raffle at the event. When kids sign in, they will receive a free raffle ticket. Prizes of the raffle are all donated by local merchants and include a long board donated by Sunrise to Sunset in Southampton, shirts given by L.A.B.L. in Sag Harbor and items donated by the Arts 4 Collective. The grand prize is a bicycle from Bike Hampton in Sag Harbor.

YARD will have a tent set up filled with youth resource information as well as booklets and pamphlets with information to parents and kids on YARD’s upcoming events and programs.

Prior to the event, the Arts 4 Collective with the help of  Too Busy Being Bored will be setting up a  Sand Sculpture Project. Fresh sand will be brought in and those who would like to participate will gather at Long Beach at 5 p.m. to hang out and build sandcastles.

“We wanted to make the show even bigger and more fun,” said Danielle Lobosco of the Arts 4. “It’s totally informal and it will help get kids more involved so that they will have a lot to do,” she added. Bethany Peters, also of the Arts 4, said “It’s for all ages. We want it to be fun for the community and really get people involved with what we’re doing.”

If you attend the Beach Night Show, you can bring beach chairs, blankets and a picnic dinner to enjoy with your family and friends. The show is sponsored in part by Southampton Town and the Noyac Civic Council.
