In Aurin Squire’s new play, “Obama-ology,” Warren lands in the streets of East Cleveland after graduating from college, working on the 2008 Obama campaign. Somewhere between knocking on doors, fending off cops and questioning his own sexual identity and racial identity as an African-American, he learns that changing society isn’t as easy as he imagined.

Behind the scenes, 19 Bay Street interns likely had the same realization as they put together the first-ever all-intern production the theater has ever seen.

Directed by Shea King, the play is directed, designed, produced and acted entirely by the College Intern Company at the Sag Harbor theater, where it will stage from Thursday, August 9, through Saturday, August 11.

“This year, Bay Street has greatly expanded our summer College Internship Program, offering our interns new educational and professional training programs as part of their experience here,” Bay Street Artistic Director Scott Schwartz said in a press release. “The centerpiece of this newly enhanced program is a production that is completely created and run by our intern company. It is a significant opportunity for them to continue to develop their skills, and an exciting chance for our audience to be introduced to the thrilling next generation of artists and theater practitioners who are a part of the Bay Street family this summer. We are very grateful to Suffolk County for helping us bring a free performance out into the community.”

Anthony Sims will star as Warren alongside Cici Koueth as Cece and Barbara, Lewis Elliott as Sam, and Kara Arena as Laura — as well as the ensemble.

“Obama-ology” will stage Thursday, August 9, through Saturday, August 11, at 4 p.m. daily at the Sag Harbor theater, located at 1 Bay Street. Tickets are $12 and $10 for students. An open rehearsal will be held on Monday, August 6, at 6 p.m. on the lawn of the Christ Episcopal Church, located at 5 Hampton Street in Sag Harbor. Admission is free. Rain date is Monday, August 13. Bring a blanket or beach chairs, as no seating will be provided.
