Halweil Headlines Next Artists & Writers Night

Almond, 1 Ocean Road in Bridgehampton, announced last week the next “Artists & Writers Night” night will be hosted by Brian Halweil on Wednesday, March 9 beginning at 7 p.m. The theme for the evening will be “Let Them Eat Code.” The evening will feature family style three-course menu created by executive chef Jason Weiner. The cost is $45, which includes a glass of local wine or craft beer, tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.

Mr. Halweil is the editor of Edible East End and co-publisher of Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan magazines, devoted to chronicling the food communities in and around New York City. He is also a senior fellow at the Worldwatch Institute, where his work has focused on organic farming, biotechnology, hunger, and rural communities. He describes the evolving local food movement in his most recent book “Eat Here: Reclaiming Homegrown Pleasures in a Global Supermarket.” He writes from Sag Harbor, where he and his family keep a home garden and orchard, and raise oysters.

Trevenen Joins Topping Rose House

John Trevenen has joined the team at the Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton as the hotel’s new manager. In his position, Mr.

Trevenen will oversee all aspects of the acclaimed hotel’s operations, team development, as well as sales and marketing. He joins the property with 30 years of strategic leadership experience in five-star hospitality, including opening The Mayflower Inn & Spa in Washington, Connecticut. As The Mayflower’s Vice President and General Manager, he was responsible for all aspects of property management and played a key role in the design and development of the hotel’s spa.

“John Trevenen’s extensive experience and wealth of knowledge have made him a highly sought after luxury hospitality professional,” said co-owner Bill Campbell. “He will add tremendous value to our team.”

Sylvester & Co. Closed for Spring Cleaning

Sylvester & Co. on Main Street in Sag Harbor is under construction and will be closed through March 14, reopening on March 15. Items are still available for purchase on the company’s website, sylvesterandco.com.

The Mannix Studio of Art Opens on Gingerbread Lane

Karyn Mannix has announced the opening of The Mannix Studio of Art, also known as The Studio, on Gingerbread Lane in East Hampton. According to Ms. Mannix, the studio is designed to nourish and further the creative mind of students of all ages, and levels of experience. Workshops will be led by members of the artistic community at The Studio, with classes beginning on Saturday, March 12 with two children’s workshops, “Art of the Masters” and “Working in Dimensions,” as well as a “Drawing from Figure Workshop” for adults.

Along with the array of Fine Art Workshops, patrons can also look forward to workshops in Circus Arts, Cartooning, Sewing,  Photography, Sculpture, Magic, Guitar, Playwriting, Memoir Writing and so much more. The Studio will also include a small exhibition space, and will be open for private parties and birthdays, as well as private art lessons.

The Studio will have a grand opening celebration on Saturday, May 28 coinciding with the opening of a Rock’n’Roll Photography Show, featuring works by Chris Foster, David Gamble, Jack Mitchell, and many more.
