October 2020 marks the 40th anniversary of Canio’s Books at 290 Main Street in Sag Harbor. To celebrate, the book shop is collecting and sharing stories. Your stories. Your favorite “Canio’s Moment” to celebrate how Canio’s Books has been a literary gathering place for all in Sag Harbor.
Tell Canio’s owners Maryann Calendrille and Kathryn Szoka about a book you discovered, maybe one that changed your life. Tell them about an author you met, a writer you long admired. Tell them what it was like for you to read your own work at the bookshop. Tell them what the shop means to you now, especially now, in this year of unprecedented challenges. Come together to remember some of the joys you’ve experienced at Canio’s Books.
“We’re so grateful for our supportive community. You’ve helped the bookshop thrive through these four decades,” said Calendrille and Szoka. “We look forward to more stories being created each day we open our door.”
Submission deadline is September 28. Submit your story (prose and poetry welcome) by email to caniosbooks@verizon.net, subject: Celebration Story. Please send prose in 12 point type, double-spaced, 10 pages maximum. One concise paragraph is just perfect, too. Videos are also welcome, 30 seconds to 2 minutes in length, landscape mode is ideal. Videos can be uploaded to caniosculturalcafe@gmail.com.
